I also have an SB-5000. It's a great flash. It has a repeating mode. I was able to do this photo with a single ping pong ball bouncing.

cool. now using both SB-700 and SB-500 as slaves. until I'm done reading the manual though I may continue with the 700 as master. dont know why but thinking of getting the Nikon SU-800.

The Retina Reflex III does not have the small front window it only with the Retina IV. Go on line and type in "Kodak Retina Reflex III Manual" If you find that your camera is ok to use, put film in it and go take some pictures.

thank you. was hoping not to google though, lol. thought someone might just tell me what button to push lmao, guess I was wrong. maybe between reflex 3 & 4 something might have been the same.

Has a small window in the front of the prism housing so you can see the selected shutter speed and diaphragn shutter speed setting. When I have the camera set to take a picture and look through the view finder I don't see any numbers. Some how one of the mirror in the prism housing is not clear. When looking through the view finder you can see it, but when you look through the lens ever thing is clear. Any ideas?

interesting, my Reflex III doesn't have that front window. had to look at the camera cause I was confused about that, yet it was my dads camera now mine by inheritance. and now since I dont have the manual can someone help me figure out how to open the back to see/replace the film ? lol.

I have a cheap ($40) Vivitar SF-4000 flash for the side light. It is light and nice for travel. I have used it as a slave. But now somehow it fires, but very very weak light. Just can not figure out why.
So, I would like to buy a cheap flash which will work as a slave BUT ALSO as a main flash. It means a slave type but without the need to fire the one on camera main flash nor with a cable connection. I would like to play with the portrait against the black backdrop.
I know, I can use a camera w/o flash and hang two-three pocket lights to get the side illumination … but . My camera is Nikon 7100 . Maybe there is a wireless feature in it .

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thank you Miro

make a possible once in a lifetime investment in a good flash for your good Nikon camera. get a good Nikon flash like others have mentioned. start at sb-500 then go up. if you plan to ever upgrade the camera to maybe a D500, save up for a definite once in a lifetime investment and get the SB-5000. its incredible. just found the manual from Christmas, lol. looking forward to the 70? page manual. having fun and being just a little sarcastic, but giving my $0.02. :-)

Actually, it just expands the range in the red direction a little bit to include the 656nm hydrogen alpha region. It is not a true IR camera since it only expands a little into darker red.

A typical camera records some HA, but with some attenuation.

so I didn't fully understand that. you have a little more clearer explanation, thank you.

The son of a close friend, is a marvelous “sketch artist”. Around Christmas-time, I offered him a Fuji x-A3 that I own.my thinking was that a great artist of any”persuasion” could benefit from owning and using a camera. He wasn’t comfortable taking a camera and lens from someone “HE” didn’t know so he didn’t take the GIFT...THEN.... now he has concluded that doing some “infra-red stuff might augment his “ARTISTRY”, but I know nothing about “infra-red” and would like to find out whether or not, he could convert a fugi mirror-less, to take infra-red images, before I give him the kit. The kid (27 years old) is without a doubt, the most talented artist I’ve ever personally known and I would love to CONTRIBUTE. Can anyone enlighten me a little about infra-red image-making?? And can this camera do the job??.......................................RJM

Read Nikon website on D810A <-- A -- not just D810. has some kind of IR (infra red) filter built in for astrophotography. ebay has many good used ones or you can check other places/websites for used cause they dont make them anymore. my $.02. thanx

I hope that you've ordered this camera already. I have a D500, D810, and D850. The D810 is a great first-line camera, and while the D850 adds some new features, there are absolutely no basic photography duties it can do that the D810 cannot. The D810 has a full magnesium alloy body, while quite a bit of the D850 is of composite construction. I no longer think that there is a big advantage one way or the other, but it is a difference. The D850 has a little better dynamic range, but the D810 has a very smooth, quiet shutter mechanism. The D810 will handle probably 98% of any conceivable task you would ask of it.

The D810A is a wide-spectrum camera optimized for astrophotography. Its sensitivity extends into both the infrared and ultraviolet portions of the spectrum, with the result that it is not usable for ordinary visible-light-only photography. Nikon makes that statement very clearly on their website. Conversely, I am unaware that there is any way at all to achieve the astro capability in the main line D810.

Just as a final note...the D500 and the D850 are operational twins. Control layout is identical on both cameras, and the menu structures are the same, except for some of the newer functions available only on the D850 (slide/negative copying, focus stacking, etc.). The D810 physical layout has some key differences...I'm coming to like the new layout better. The D850 also has a new sensor design, which is more evolutionary than revolutionary, in my experience, and it also has a little bit higher pixel count and more video options. It also uses opaque masks in the viewfinder when using one of several non-full frame formats instead of simple lines. I find that pretty helpful. Others will tell you that it also offers better autofocus functionality, which can be a big plus depending on what you are shooting.

Good luck as you decide. If your main interest really is the astro functions, this one won't work. Otherwise, it could likely be a good choice for you.

thank you larry. appreciate the info. my bad didn't make clear i'm interested in the D810A. and I got the D500 also.

2014 was release date. I have one and it backs up my D850. Its a great workhorse camera. 2150 shutter actuations is NOTHING! I take 800 at a shooting event easy peasy. I have 20,000 on my D810 and it is like new. I actually like the D810 menu and layout in someways better than the D850. For the money though, you may want to consider a used or refurbished D850.

If you are really interested in purchasing it, the D810 was a really terrific camera. Just because it was discontinued last year doesn't mean it's any less of a camera. This high level pro body wasn't abandoned by pros or experienced amateurs just because a newer version became available.

oh yes, I total agree. its hard to find the one I want though. its the D810A, not d810. that's why I was lucking finding one on B and H online. thank you very much though.

rats just missed a new one. got the D500 in 2018 for a reason and only last year I wanted the 810A and thought I was too late cause the 850 was out last year. and the D780. thanx again.

Well, 2150 shots indicates it was only lightly used. In term's of shutter life expectancy, Nikon claims a shutter life for the D810 as 200,000 actuations. As a result, its reasonable to assume that with regard to the shutter the body you are considering is practically brand new.

cool. thanx, really thinking of getting it now. maybe a few more though. also waiting to see who may know what year those cams came out.

Well, that shutter should be good for at least 150,000 shutter count, and probably more like 200,000. So you can decide from there. Good luck.

thanx, so far that's good for a sale. do your remember year that cam came out ? ( are you a Nikon guy ?) lol
