My Powershot A570 IS was stolen and now I would like to get something comparable to this or better. I really loved this one. Thanks. Thoughts.

At one time, I had an A570IS, and I loved the photo quality, BUT I found that with the AA batteries, it couldn't recharge the flash quick enough to suit me. I've found I much prefer cameras with rechargeable lithium ion batteries as opposed to AA's.

Good morning all, just wanted to get some opinions on the full frame vs crop sensor debate. Which do you use and why?

When I got my first DSLR years ago, I got a crop camera. At the time I did not know there were different types of DSLRs. The only difference I saw was price, and there was a pretty big difference in price!

It turns out that I am OK with the crop camera, because I shoot mostly birds and wildlife, and the grandkids in sports.

I am now on about my fifth or sixth DSLR, and still have continued to purchase the crop cameras. The main reason is still the price. This is just a hobby, and I don't make money from my photos. My husband doesn't share an interest in photography, so I don't feel that I am free to spend thousands on a camera body. Another reason is the fact that most of my lenses are the type that would not fit on a full frame camera, and it's economically not feasible for me to purchase all new lenses to a fit a full frame camera.

In an ideal world, I would have one of each, a crop frame and a full frame.

[quote=Davethehiker]As romantic as fire places are and how everyone likes them, I don't. I think they are a waste of good wall space. If you look at the photos above, you will see a little box on the ground next to my shed. That's a 25KW, natural gas powered, electric power generator. It kicks on automatically 6 seconds after a power failure. This combined with two independent gas powered furnaces give me the warm fuzzy feeling of security I need.

BTW, I have lived in another home that had two fireplaces. I have used them in an emergencies, even cooked and baked biscuits in them. I do use wood in my slow cooker but that's outside.

Everyone buying their first home wants a fire place. It helps sell a house.[/quote

My husband thinks like you. When we built our home 35 years ago, the house plan called for a fireplace. My husband said the same thing… wasted wall space… and didn't put one in. I was a bit disappointed. My daughter just built a home and has a lovely gas fireplace and the flames come up with the push of a button. I would like something like that, but don't want to give up the wall space! LOL

I reduced the size of one of my files to see if it will upload.
This is a test:

It worked! I just had to reduce the file size.

Hmmm... I don't recall the on/off light ever going completely off
Unless I'm powering down..

Alternating off/on when charging
Battery

If this is, in fact, normal and I
never Noticed it, it confirms that
Im getting too damn old!!

Getting old really sucks!!

I hadn't noticed mine doing that until I read your post, so I got out my camera to check, and sure enough, it does just as you say. Maybe the light coincides with the use of the electronic viewfinder vs. the LCD screen....

Poop! Looks like the only selected lenses are primes. Didn't see any zooms.

That link went to a press release from a year ago, so they may have added more lenses to the list now.

I purchased P900 about 3 weeks ago

Recently, the on/off button would function ok

Until I opened the LCD door - then the light shut off

All functions appear to be working

When I closed the LCD door, or switch to the EVF,

THE LIGHT TURNS BACK ON!

Any ideas?

TIA

GARY

I think that's normal. The light goes on and off as you stated, but my camera functions fine.

Just a note on third party lenses. I have been using a few Sigma lenses. The fact that the newer lenses can be quickly updated through the USB hub has made them much more attractive. If Tamron had the same, you might not have needed to send the lens back at all.

It looks like Tamron has now come out with a usb station that can update firmware.

First off, like to thank everyone for their input on previous topics. You all helped me greatly in deciding the direction I will be taking.

Now I would like to know if anyone out there has had experience purchasing from Best Buy. Now I know it is important to support local shops, however Best Buy is offering a D750 kit with a AF-S Nikkor 24-120mm f/4G ED VR lens, plus other goodies, for $2399.99. While I could undoubtedly find the same deal elsewhere, I have more then a handful of gift cards that would cover nearly have the cost. So fellow UHH people what do you think?

If I had the gift cards, I would definitely go ahead and buy it at Best Buy. Just watch your return time limit. If an item is defective, they may have a shorter period of time in which you have to return it. You won't get that mom-and-pop camera shop warm and fuzzy feeling, perhaps, but the gift cards certainly come into play here. Or at least, for me, they would.

Loaded up my camera gear thsi morning, drove 26 miles to the trail head, marched another mile with a 28 pound ruck to the bridge - only to find that I left the camerea battery home in the charger.

So you will have to use your imagination to see the Des Moines river from this neat 1/2 mile long trail bridge.

My only consolation is knowing that I am not the first person to be this absent minded.

If it's not the battery, it's the tripod mounting plate, or the camera card. We all learn the hard way! Thus I now own multiples of all three items, and a spare of each lives in the bag!

this is where they got their name

The ones around here seem to always just have a yellowish-orange patch on their belly, and I've never understood why they were called "red-bellied". Now that I've seen your photo, it makes more sense! Great shot!
