Me too. My wife ordered two different products at the same time, from her phone. We got billed the shipping for the FREE one and $99 for the next months. I called to cancel and they would not do it. They said their web site had all the info. Told them we did not buy from there and what was on their site was not the same as the one we ordered from. What we ordered was a month free trial......and there should be no $99 charge until the next month.....they kept refusing to refund so I filed a claim with BBB.......They even refused them. I appealed and told the company one more time to cancel ALL product and refund in full or I would take them to court and it would cost them more in the long run as I had copies of all transactions showing what I said as true, and at the same time I would shut them down for false advertising. I got my $200 back and kept the free sample. There are LOTS of complaints against this company on the internet. I tried to get letters from a lot of them but no one wants to get involved, so I was on my own. Print out their web site and a copy of the EARLY billing to put with the BBB claim. To bad people have to scam to make money.......they just keep telling people they will not refund, so the customers just give up..

BBB is as much a scam as the scammers. Good ratings are bought, not earned.

HHoggers, I had to close out my old e-mail address, and reapply with my G-mail address. Now I can hopefully catch up on discussions I've missed for the past couple of months. In reacquainting myself with the group, I'd like to mention I was the Technical Editor for Digital Photographer and Pro Digital Imaging, two of the national print magazines for digital photographers in the last decade. Alas, sadly gone due to the destruction by the Internet. But that's in the past- I read with great eagerness all that's happening today in the digital photography consumer/prosumer marketeplace and I appreciate the HH's valued experience.
I've also embarked on a huge project to digitally scan selective portions of my 35mm slide archive to my computer for inclusion in my Life Memoir. I'm the kind of guy who likes to repurpose equipment for practical uses. As a result, I've obtained a classic 35mm film scanner, the Canoscan 4000, and I'm readying it for my scanning project. The main issues are the CanoScan software was used when Windows XP was the reigning PC operating system. I now use Windows 7 Pro. I know that's still old, but it's what I've got.
So my question to HH readers is what's the best solution to get Windows XP OS to function on my Windows 7 computer, so I can get the scanning software to work? I appreciate any and all responses.
Regards,
Tony Gomez

Lots of folks use VueScan. It seems to work with any OS, any RAW file, any output, and several computers. It has frequent updates to keep up with new camera models. I've never been stumped by it; it just works.

On my way out to run some errands the other day, I spotted a 6-8 point buck crossing the road that runs behind our house out to the main road. Then a short ways further (still before getting to the main road) I had to stop for a flock of Wild Turkeys crossing the road....I see both of these a lot in my neck of the woods.

Same situation here. We live only a few miles from each other. The main difference is that our turkeys seem to move about in pairs, not flocks.

It has been confirmed that Los Angeles, CA will host the 2028 Summer Olympics. This will be the third one. The first one was hosted in 1932, four years before Hitler's 1936 political Olympics in Germany, where American, Jesse Owens won 4 Gold Medals. The next LA Olympics was in 1984, with the energetic pursuit to get it there by the late Mayor Tom Bradley. It was one of the great ones. I remember it well. The Russians boycotted that 1984 Olympics because President Jimmy Carter boycotted the Russian 1980 Summer Olympics because of their involvement in Afghanistan. It was still great without the Russians. The Olympics will be back on American soil. Yes, politics plays a role in the Olympics, beginning with the1936 Olympics. But, what isn't these days. Congratulations to Los Angeles.

Los Angeles had to promise that by 2028 the average freeway speeds during rush hour would increase to 8 mph. That won the day for them.

SALT! That is the problem. The turkey needs to be brined properly! If people would stop thinking of turkey as a seasonal bird, they would get used to cooking it properly!

Turkey Rules!!!

We have wild turkeys wandering all over the neighborhoods here. Except in November.

It WAS lighthearted and inoffensive. Don't worry about that. Some people are offended by corn flakes commercials.

I handhold all of my Hummingbird shots...This was taken with a 300mm F4 Nikkor...

You missed the point. I could handhold that shot too. What I said was that you set up a remote rig to be radio triggered you would need a tripod.

Not critical at all. Brush up on your camera technique and you will do fine. If i can still shoot at asa 25 f 1.4 at 1/4 sec, you can too. 😁

So can I, probably owing to my long range rifle shooting training and practice. I don't count on it for low light and/or long lens work though. Sometimes there's no way to fake a tripod. How about using a radio trigger on a DSLR trained on a hummingbird feeder? That's only one example.

Nonsense. It's a tool that serves a clear purpose.

Mildly acceptable work for a UGA Bulldog! Just kidding, it's really nice. The human figures give it scale without making it a people picture. I'm especially fond of this kind of subject. Well done!

Very nicely built Vietnamese made camera. Slightly better in craftsmanship than the older Chinese made Mark I.

You made me look. Sure enough, my E-M5ii was made by the Viet Cong. The high end lenses were made in Japan, and the kit lenses were made in China. Fuji makes everything in Japan except one body that I found - the X-T10 I think. There may be others. Nikon builds a lot of stuff in Thailand whenever the floodwaters recede.

Nothing wrong with the Panasonic fz-1000, but the Sony with a much larger sensor and interchangeable lenses is a far superior camera. I've read many comments that the menus on Sony cameras are difficult to master. I don't own one, but even if true, it would be worth the time to put into mastering them rather than giving up on it. If you have to shoot in auto until you understand the camera more fully, you'll still get some good pictures. Don't give up. If you can afford it, you can still buy something like the Panasonic when you absolutely need to have something you can put in your pants pocket. I've read the reviews myself, and it seems competitive with other similar cameras in the same price range.

If menus are daunting, Fujifilm cameras could be a real boon to you. There is no mode dial, there is no Auto setting. If both the aperture ring on the lens and the shutter speed dial is set to A you are in Program mode. If you twist on the aperture ring and select, let's say f8, you're in aperture mode. Simple as that. There's a grid you access by pushing a physical button. Best menu structure I've ever seen. There are menus, but they're quite brief by comparison to some of the nightmares of Olympus and some others. I don't know about Sony, but at least one of the Canikon twins has a terribly complicated array of settings. I won't mention the name, but it's the one I'm familiar with.

I started into photography late in life and I've tried to become adept at shooting manual, aperture, etc, but I am not quick enough to make adjustments on the fly and miss many shots. Plus, the Sony is so smart that auto beats my attempts 99% of the time. Am I alone in finding photography difficult?
I travel often and I think I would prefer a good bridge camera that is easier to pack and wouldn't make me feel like I'm driving a BMW in second gear when I shoot in auto.
So I'm thinking about selling my like-new Sony a6000 mirrorless, with 18-50 kit lens and 55-210 zoom. Is there interest and what would be a fair price? They're in perfect condition.
I've been looking at replacing it with the Panasonic fz-1000. I've read reviews and it's in my price range. Any comments?

I think you answered your own question when you mentioned that you started into photography late in life. You never flew a Piper Cub; you were thrust into an F-16. My advice would be to keep what you have and use it as if it were a much simpler camera, Try Aperture priority, and remember that f8 or f 11 usually works well in bright light and low light will require a larger f stop (lower number). Once you see the successes and failures you produce (we all do) you can branch out and explore the more exotic settings. I'm not familiar with the Panny FZ-1000, but I'll guess it has some pretty bewildering menu choices too. I wonder what gains you would make with that choice.

Start out by flying your F-16 at 20,000 feet and 500 knots. There's time to go supersonic later.
