This one's NOT about cameras designed for elitists - it's about the ones designed for those who want something small and pocketable, and - most of all - inexpensive. Now, then … we ALL know they're out there - don't we? … And many folks buy them, too. They may not have a zillion megapixels, or FF formats, or APS-C, or MFT, or 1" even - but they get the job done - don't they? …. So, what's your fave, and why?

Oh, yes … be sure to indicate pertinent facts about it, when you comment - like MP (if you know it) and Zoom Length, and Sensor size (if it's digital) and if not - film size it takes. And, perhaps - the price … ok?

The smaller pocket cameras are all different prices depending on the features: Canon makes good point & shoots.
Example: A Canon PowerShot sx260 has a twenty times zoom and takes great photos and is pocketable.

GETTING OLDER

A distraught senior citizen
phoned her doctor's office.
"Is it true," she wanted to know,
"that the medication
you prescribed has to be taken
for the rest of my life?"
"'Yes, I'm afraid so,"' the doctor told her.
There was a moment of silence
before the senior lady replied,
"I'm wondering, then,
just how serious is my condition
because this prescription is marked
'NO REFILLS'.."

~~~~~~~~~~
An older gentleman was
on the operating table
awaiting surgery
and he insisted that his son,a renowned surgeon,
perform the operation.
As he was about to get the anesthesia,
he asked to speak to his son.
"Yes, Dad, what is it?"
"Don't be nervous, son;
do your best,
and just remember,
if it doesn't go well,
if something happens to me,
your mother
is going to come and
live with you and your wife...."
(I LOVE IT!)
~~~~~~~~~~
Aging:
Eventually you will reach a point
when you stop lying about your age
and start bragging about it. This is so true. I love
to hear them say "you don't look that old."
~~~~~~~~~~
The older we get,
the fewer things
seem worth waiting in line for.
~~~~~~~~~~
Some people
try to turn back their odometers.
Not me!
I want people to know why
I look this way.
I've traveled a long way
and some of the roads weren't paved.
~~~~~~~~~~
When you are dissatisfied
and would like to go back to youth,
think of Algebra.
~~~~~~~~~~
One of the many things
no one tells you about aging
is that it is such a nice change
from being young.
~~~~~~~~~~
Ah, being young is beautiful,
but being old is comfortable.
~~~~~~~~~~
First you forget names,
then you forget faces.
Then you forget to pull up your zipper...
it's worse when
you forget to pull it down.
~~~~~~~~~~
Two guys, one old, one young,
are pushing their carts around- WalMart
when they collide.
The old guy says to the young guy,
"Sorry about that. I'm looking for my wife,
and I guess I wasn't paying attention to where
I was going."
The young guy says, "That's OK, it's a coincidence.
I'm looking for my wife, too...
I can't find her and I'm getting a little desperate."
The old guy says, "Well, maybe I can help you find her...
what does she look like?"
The young guy says, "Well, she is 27 years old, tall,
with red hair, blue eyes, is buxom...wearing no bra,
long legs, and is wearing short shorts.
What does your wife look like?'
To which the old guy says, doesn't matter,
let's look for yours."
(ADORABLE)
~~~~~~~~~~
(And this final one especially for me,)
"Lord, keep Your arm around my shoulder
and Your hand over my mouth!"

Now, if you feel this doesn't apply to you . . ..
stick around awhile . . .it will!

I've never been able to figure out exactly what a bridge camera is.

Bridged between a point & shoot and a DSLR.
Example: A Canon PowerShot sx60 is a Bridge camera.
The Nikon P1000 is a Bridge camera.

Examples Point & shoot: Canon PowerShot sx720, and Canon PowerShot sx260.

I had the P900 for a 30-day trial when it was first released. It was a nice camera but it just didn't "fit" right. I found it awkward to use and ended up returning it.
The P1000, however, is a keeper. Some reviewers complain that it's too big. I can only assume that they are not also Full Frame DSLR users. To me, it justb "feels" right (much more like my D850).
Yes, it's larger than the P900, but it beats carrying a D850 and a bag of lenses. And, of course, there is NO single DSLR lens that can come close to matching the zoom range of the P1000.
But it's not all about the mega-zoom. The EVF is an order of magnitude better than the the P900. The image stabilization is amazingly good, the external controls are more user-friendly and the hand grip is the best I've seen on a Bridge camera. The P1000 also can shoot RAW, unlike the P900.
It won't REPLACE my D850...but it will serve as an "always-on-hand" alternative...and selling a really big DSLR lens will more than pay for it. Bottom-line: for me, it is worth moving from P900 to P1000.
Your opinion may vary. I'd suggest ordering one from a dealer (or Amazon) that allows 30-day return privileges. It's even better than "try before you buy"!

Several videos and reviews on the net that compares these and notes improvements. Do a search for Nikon P1000 reviews. Picks those that are the latest.
Also go to sites that have the camera for sale and read reviews such as B&H, Adorama, etc.
Search this site for comments on the Nikon P1000 by some members that recently purchased this camera.

Thank you.

Hi I have been researching cameras and it is blowing my mind.
From experience, what would be a great compact camera with the best quality pictures?
Don't care for Wifii, or uploading to internet.
Don't need a lot of hupla. Just a great camera.
Would appreciate any advise.
Don't mind learning curve. Need to grow

Are you talking pocket camera? a Canon PowerShot sx720 that has a 40xs zoom.

Think of doing a math problem in your head. When you have to start jotting thing down on paper, then you've run out of RAM.

Everybody is talking about RAM which is a correct answer to an extent. I have a laptop that had 4 G of RAM. It ran PSE 13 without any problems. Is there any way you could try to load the program on another computer? If you can, check the preferences under file in the menu bar. Go down to performance and check history. Change to 50 or less. That will allow you to use the program with less RAM.

Geoff

Thank you, I am willing to try anything to keep from going to expense of another computer.
