It is a free service, no subscription required, just need to be in an area where an FM station broadcast the info, mostly found only in metropolitan areas. From the book:
If your device includes a traffic receiver, it can receive traffic data from an over-the-air broadcast signal, where available. This feature is not available in all areas or for all product models.
1 Verify your device includes a traffic receiver.
• An FM traffic receiver is included in product models
ending with LT or LMT.
2 Connect the device to vehicle power using the power cable included with your device (Connecting the Device to Vehicle Power, page 2).
The power cable included with your device includes an antenna for the traffic receiver.
When you are within a traffic coverage area, your device can display traffic information and help you avoid traffic delays.
As you can see the black rectangular piece on your power cord is a FM antenna.
My experience with one of these is identical to yours with the exception that I installed the Garmin Drive Assist 50 GPS (it has an integrated DashCam) and I put it in a Toyota Camry. I love the GPS unit and the cameras, backup and dash cams work really well. I installed it just as you described, drilling a hole under the plate, etc. I'm old also and had the same aches and pains as you. The black thingy on your cord someone on here referred to is not the video receiver, that is built into the unit. It is an FM receiver that receives traffic information that is broadcast on FM stations in metropolitan areas and alerts you to traffic jams etc on your route.
I've been to Kaena Point a few times but in the mountain tops over the shoreline that you traveled. It's closed down now but there are radar and telemetry tracking sites located there. They tracked missiles launched from Vandenberg AFB. I believe Kaena Point is also the location that the then experimental radars were that detected the planes coming in to attack Pearl. I enjoyed your pics and loved going to Hawaii every chance I got.
I have a Pentax ME that I put away many years ago. I bought an adapter so that I can use the collection of lenses I have for the Pentax on my Oly EM10. The lenses are nothing special but fun to play with anyway. I think you may have slipped a decade on when you bought your first digital camera, I don't think there was anything available in 1990 that would make you switch from film, it was barely so in 1999.
Dlevon, Thanks much for the info, I really appreciate it. Will put it to use the next time I see the moon on a clear night.
I have an SX50 and like you I like taking pictures of the moon. I have taken a few that I like pretty well but none as nice as this one that you have posted. Could you provide a few details, settings, tips, perhaps?
Welcome. My earliest memories are of Port Orchard, my family moved there during the war, dad worked at the naval yards in Bremerton. Sure a big difference from Vegas huh?
Gorgeous birds/pictures Loved viewing them.

Wonderful photso of such a beautiful place. Loved looking at these.
Thanks, it's been a long time since I've been in a biology class. I was having coffee on our patio and picked my trusty SX50HS and shot this, These blooms, the diameter of a 50 cent piece were around 15 to 17 feet away and bouncing around in the wind. I cropped only a little and played around a bit with the lighting using Picasa3.📷
Good thought, will do 😱
Dropped some viagra into the flower bed fertilizer, look what happened.
