This person has a AF 80-200mm 2.8D-ED lens for sale for Nikon. Wants 475.00. Will it be better than my 55x200 and is the price right. Will it work on my D7000?

First I want to say thanks for all the info here. I am new to photography other than pointing and shooting with my phone or my pas camera. I recently purchased a Nikon D3300 dslr. Unfortunately a couple of days ago it was stolen from my car along with a tamron telephoto lens, some other lens, bag etc. Is there any kind of equipment listed for sale here or do I go back to Amazon. I want to replace my stuff (as soon as I can save some money) but I want to make correct and wise purchases. Thanks for any assistance.

Sorry for your loss. Don't overlook Nikon's website. They often have some pretty good prices on refurbished equipment.

Early in the new year I plan to purchase a Nikon D7100. Has anyone had experience with 42nd Street Photo? They list a lot of cameras and lenses at very low prices.

Stay away! They sell bare bones cameras cheap and then try to up-sell you for the accessories that normally come with a new camera. Adorama currently has a D7100, refurbished by Nikon for $699.00

I want to get into dslr photography and I want to buy a used dslr camera. I need some advice on what I should buy. I am just getting into the hobby.

Right now, $400 will get you a refurbished Nikon D3200 with 18-55mm lens, from Nikon direct:

This is an excellent starter camera and will suit your needs well.

I've worn trifocals for years and am considering the new generation of progressive eyeglass lenses. Anyone have experience with these new eyeglass lenses and if so, how do they affect viewing through the lens? Should add that I have adapted to the difficulties associated with trifocals, but would like an improvement if anyone can attest.... 8-)

I wore bifocals for years and was never able to adjust to the older generation of progressive lenses. In the older generation of progressive lenses, the field of vision used to be very narrow and I had difficulty adjusting to the lack of peripheral vision. However, about 5 years ago, I was able to move up to the progressive lenses because the technology had advanced to allow for a wider field of vision. I no longer have any issues with peripheral vision. Now the technology has again advanced to something that they are advertising as "HD". This has made the field of vision even wider and emulates that which you have with your tri-focals. It is important for your optometrist to get the eye position correct so that your new progressive lenses will work in the same manner that your tri-focals now function. As others have stated, get your glasses made somewhere that has a good return policy. I've used both Costco and Lenscrafters and had no issues with returning glasses. I would recommend Lenscrafters for your first pair as their electronic method of measuring eye placement (they take a picture of your face with the new frames on and then electronically measure where your eye naturally sits.) is more accurate and will result in crisper vision with the new progressives.

so what if he made a mistake .For Gods sake the man is 86 years old .That alone should be enough not to get in his face. Does it make you feel good to take on seniors. At his age I positive that he is NOT trying to scam anybody. If you were a gentleman you could have walked away and let him alone instead of trying to humiliate him. By the way that is what I'm doing now.

Please walk away. You have nothing to do with this. I was trying to handle this via PM and not humiliate anyone. Patrick is the one that brought this public, not me. I did not insinuate that he was intentionally trying to scam anyone. What I've been saying and continue to say is that I would not have purchased this lens from Patrick had I known that it was refurbished. That is my preference.

If there's an a--h--e in the room, it is you. I never said that I expected a brand new item. What I said was that had I known it was a refurbished item, I would have taken a different course of action. Put that in your cornflakes and piss on it. I was trying to handle this man to man via PM but Patrick saw the need to take this public. I am not a "complainer". This is the first time that I've felt the need to do anything like this. Tell me that you can honestly read the original post and come away with the idea that a refurbished item was being offered.

With respect, Louis. . . . .

My offer to sell ends with the statement that the lens was a gift to me. If it is already a personal gift it clearly is no longer new!
The last phrase in the offer has " EFFECTIVELY new' in quotes, clearly stating that it is quasi new - " like new" .

I'm 86 years old and a 100% DAV. I still take my oath of honor very seriously.
I've been active on eBay for over 20 years and have a 100% favorable rating.

=-However, I would not take umbrage if you still feel injured and wish to present your complaint to the UHH (where the transaction occurred) or to Paypal.

I'll not comment on your assumption that because that you subsequently found a listing for $10 more from a gray market source in China somehow entitles you to a rebate or impugns my integrity.

Patrick,
My issues with this transaction are as follows:
You represented this item as an unopened lens, "effectively brand new" with the factory warranty card. This would indicate that the lens has a factory warranty of one year. No where in your original post do you state that this is a refurbished item with a factory warranty of 90 days.
Just for the record, I retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service and am also 100% disabled. I also have been selling on ebay for the last 10 years and have a 100% satisfaction rate. I don't see where either of those has any bearing on the issue at hand.
As far as your integrity goes, I can not make any comment except where it relates to this transaction and I must say that IMHO the item was misrepresented. Only you can comment on whether it was an intentional misrepresentation a failure of omission. I challenge anyone to read your original posting and expect to receive a refurbished item. This has nothing to do with the perceived quality of a refurbished item over a new item. It has everything to do with properly representing the items that you are selling, here and elsewhere. As i stated to you in PM, had I known the lens was refurbished, I would have proceeded differently.

Ok, there's the link to the site where it has pics and a video of how the strap works. The male end uni loop is supposed to connect to the right side camera strap lug. I have uploaded one of the pics they have here and if you want to see more you can click the link for the site. They also include a female uni loop when you get the strap so that you can use it with a pro battery pack or other gear. What I did since I didn't like my lens sticking out and always keeping my hand on it was to take that male uni loop and move it to the left side of my camera and then placed the female one on the right and I connect both of them to the strap at once and then the lens hangs towards the ground.

I bought the OpTech sling as well. I carried my camera for awhile the way they recommend and I found myself with my hand on my lens all the time trying to make sure I wasn't going to run it into anything. Then I did like bsprague said and I reversed the male/female order, since I don't keep a grip on my camera at the moment where they suggest the other one goes, and now it hangs straight down. I don't have great big lenses on my camera, but I've never felt like I needed a reinforcement on the clips. I really like how secure my camera feels on both of the clips and it doesn't seem like it's straining them anywhere close enough that they might pop apart and drop my camera.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by reversing the male/female order. Can you show some pics of before and after or give me a little more instruction on how this is done. I am seriously considering the Optech USA Pro sling for my Nikon D5200 with the 18-300mm lens and want to make sure that the lens will lie flat instead of sticking out to the side.

There are less expensive options for those who do not use a camera bag that often or just can't afford the more expensive ones. Go to amazon and check out their amazon basics line for camera bags and camera backpacks.

this is the link for the large DSLR bag: http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Large-Gadget-Orange-interior/dp/B00CF5OHZ2/ref=pd_cp_p_0
