This is a great site with plenty of information and shows rates for different companies: https://tripinsurancestore.com
I always purchase travel insurance for out-of-country trips since Medicare doesn't cover you outside the USA. In almost all cases, you must purchase the insurance within 14 days of your initial trip deposit to cover pre-existing conditions. The web site explains this in great detail.

Just found this link when I googled your problem. From what I am reading, it does take high res horizontal panoramas.

I found several camera review sites with high resolution panorama shots obviously taken in horizontal mode.

Hi and welcome.

I have this camera and have taken several horizontal (camera held in landscape orientation) panoramas. The camera is always set at the highest resolution. As far as I am able to tell, the images were taken in high resolution.

It occurs to me that there may be a communication issue/misunderstanding between you and the tech. I also actually went through my manual using keywords "resolution" and "panorama" and was not able to find a reference to what the tech told you.

Now you have me wondering what's going on here.

I agree that the tech may be confusing horizontal and vertical. The camera user manual specifies a horizontal but no vertical picture size for high resolution panorama. The email was signed by a Sr. Specialist Technical Support Alpha and Digital Image. It worries me that a Sr. Specialist doesn't know the difference between horizontal and vertical.

If anyone has this camera, please do me a favor and try taking a [b]horizontal[b] panorama shot in [b]high resolution setting[b].
My camera will only take a vertical panorama shot in high resolution and the Sony repair tech just emailed me and said that a high resolution panoramic shot cannot only be taken in vertical, not horizontal mode. This doesn't really make sense to me. He said this is the same with HX300 or WX30 Sony cameras.

Has anyone used the Sony Repair Center in Texas? I just mailed my Sony DSC-HX50V to them for repair. It will not allow horizontal panning in the high resolution panorama mode. Spent 45 minutes on the phone with tech support and they were unable to solve problem.

I will be heading out for trip to Alaska and I want to take some decent pictures. I had a 35 pre digital so I know a little. However, I want a 35mm that isn't to clunky to carry about and no switching out lenses, but I want to be able to get some decent zoom shots if something is up a tree. I'm on the older side of 60 and retired, so it can't be too complicated but I don't want just a point and shoot. Any suggestions?

I purchased a Sony DSC-HX50V and have been very pleased with it. Zoom lens from 24-750 mm, yet camera can fit in jacket pocket. Photo quality is great and you can choose between fully auto or full manual settings. Here are some review sites:

Instead of using Pinnacle to import the video, import the video directly to your computer using the usb connection. Your computer should recognize the video camera as a hard drive. Once you've got your video files on your computer, open the edit tab in Pinnacle and locate your video files. Pinnacle will then read them from your computer. Check on Amazon for Pinnacle Studio instruction books by Jeff Naylor. He does an excellent job of explaining how to use Studio.

I have been a Nikon person for many years but recently purchased a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX50V and find the directions complicated. I had to go to a Radio-Shack to get some directions and still cannot figure out what buttons to push. Why is that? I will be going on an important trip soon and am concerned that I will be spending more time trying to find what I want on the camera to take the photo----thus missing the moment. HELP.

I recently purchased this camera and really enjoy it but I agree that the documentation that came with the camera is useless. You can download a more extensive manual from the Sony support website. I also purchased extra batteries and an external charger from Amazon. That way the batteries can be charged outside of the camera.
