I had the same comcast/xfinity triple pack. Got rid of the phone and TV and kept just the internet modem which has built in WiFi. I saved $200+/month, and I pay $30/mo extra for the high speed connection. I don't even know that I ever asked for the high speed stuff, I'm pretty sure I would not notice a slower connection. I kept it for now because I have 3 TV's with both Roku and Fire on them, plus 2 cell phones using wifi instead of data, and my wife has at least 3 ipad type devices she plays games on.

Anyway, Comcast didn't raise my internet connection at all, and actually asked my wife if she wanted to drop the high speed connection for a slower one to save even more money. Comcast was VERY accommodating to us LONG time customers dropping the TV and Phone stuff. In the past when I would complain about the expense, they always said it would cost more if you dropped the phone, and wouldn't save much if I dropped other services.

I also have $20 digital antenna's connected to my TV's. I never use it, but my wife occasionally watches a couple game shows on live stations, Jeopardy and a couple others. The antenna's get around 60 stations but most are junk, or already covered on the Roku/Firestick. The reception is pretty darn good though. Way better than it was in old days before cable.

Lastly, Comcast has a free streaming device that sounds like Roku/Firestick. Since it was free, I had them send me one. POS. It was worse than my smart TV connection. I disconnected it. It was not worth what I paid for it, which was nothing. I'm thinking they give it away to discourage customers from going the streaming route...

Interesting....I had considered going satellite for tv, keeping internet on Comcast and forgetting the house phone line. It is 90% scammers and salespeople anyway.

I tried a digital antenna once, but nothing ...., of course there are loads of streaming channels nowadays that were not there a year ago.

Yes, it is crazy. I have internet because Roku works, but the TV doesn't know it. I'll try the unplugging idea later.

My Vizio worked fine as a smart TV, as does this Samsung, but it works much faster using Roku or Fire. I want to look into iptv.com and see if that will replace my cable TV. We have computer, TV, and phone with Spectrum, so if we drop one, the cost of the others will increase. Gotcha and gotcha. If I drop the cable, I'll still need them for internet.

I have the same issue here with Comcast/xfinity...I get phone tv & internet over cable...dropping tv & phone will probably increase internet alone to near what I pay now for the bundle...am waiting for Verizon 5g home though!

My question I have to ask...two DVD players? What purpose does that serve?

I got rid of my fire stick and Roku stick in favor of a smart tv with Wi-Fi & roku built in. The old tv gave up on me, so a newer, bigger, better one was due! Have not needed a DVD player for years now. Dropped the Netflix service completely since they went political overtly.

What people don't seem to understand is that you may have a perpetual right to use the software. The company will only support it until the next release comes out. This is true with not just Adobe but most other vendors. I had moved away from Photoshop to PSE due to the every 18-24 month upgrade cycle costing >$600. I was using Lightroom 5.7 and PSE 14 when Adobe announced the Photography Plan. For $9.99/month I could have the most current versions of Lightroom and Photoshop, it was a no brainer.

Ditto what others say about Mac versions of your programs. However, some do not have Mac versions and for those you can use an application called Parallels Desktop that can create a virtual Windows machine that runs on a Mac if you need it. For me it's been just like running "Windows" but it's a screen on the Mac OS desktop. Wierd huh, but it works!

FWIW: I have great success running the free Virtual Box software to allow a virtual Windows 10 computer running on my iMac. Very stable.

Went out for a driving day trip, saw some nice country, took a bunch of photos, had an excellent lunch. Rolling home late afternoon spotted a small herd. I had already packed away the D7200 with 200-500 on. Stopped, got out, unpacked the camera - they were at some distance in a hayfield. The bull was napping so they all held. When he woke up, he still wasn't eager to leave. I gave up first to get home and take care of the dogs.

Great shots! Lucky catch!

I spent both weekend days at the racetrack using a 11 year old D3 and an old Silent Wave AFS 80~200mm F:2.8D lens. I also used a old D600 and a 24~120mm F:3.5~4.5. The results look great if I might say so.

Great catches!

With all my travel plans cancelled for this year, I thought I would share some of my leopard photos from our trip to Botswana last summer. It was my first outing with my Canon 5D IV. Nothing like learning under fire. Absolutely epic trip.

While supervising my wife's gardening tasks I noticed that the hummingbirds were congregating in the trees over her. Grabbed my trusty D500, 500PF combo and took some shots. 1/500, f 5.6, ISO 2200 to 5000. The birds just kept coming- 20 individuals or more! They would land on a branch for about 10 seconds then hover, wait for another bird to approach then buzz off to somewhere. Then a few more came in, followed this same routine, then a few started landing and staying for a few minutes. Anna's, juveniles I think, going by the incompletely covered ear hole and incomplete red feathering. #4 and #6 could be another species- Broad-tailed possibly. The bird with its tongue out is either testing the air (not smokey, yet) or telling me what it thinks- the latter most probably.

Made 782 images-most are good and useable. The images presented here are all of different birds, although it is difficult to tell. The event lasted less than an hour, from about 4:50 to about 5:45 PM PDT . They kept at it until dark. My neck hurt from bending around branches and leaves to get the shot. These birds look just like a leaf if they do not move-low light made things even more fun to photograph!

While watching the birds a Chickoree Squirrel came by screaming at me to leave. Forgot to change settings, so the images were all Very dark. Topaz pulled it out out of the noise!

Downloads tell the tale.

Enjoy!

I guess flickr and smugmug consider that raw files are not images
(a heated topic that arises from time to time, most recent one I've come across is at https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-667280-7.html#11606404 et seq., part of a raw/jpg discussion).

OR - they may just be concerned about the added storage space that raw files take up and that they may need to then deal with maintaining conversion algorithm’s for each xmp edit by every raw editor in use to enable display of the finished image vs a much smaller JPG file which is easily displayable with edits baked in?

What? I thought they stored raw, jpeg, video... But I use JPEG for sharing. So I have not tried to upload raw. I will check. And report back.....

... I’m back. Well you are correct. I did not know that they did not accept raw. I saw that advert from them “backup all your Images” and thought it was for all the images. Some perhaps some different marketing going on now.

They do have a vault service, for any file type, but it costs additional $. I do not recommend it.

FWIW: flicker advertised the same thing for their pro plan, backup all your images - they get placed into private folders ....only problem, no raw......

As I understand their model, they’re a front-end portal and use Amazon S3 for their back-end storage, so I’d be comparing their cloud storage pricing to Amazon. Another downside of using them for cloud storage (other than the JPEG limitation you mention) is it’s one more layer between you and your storage that can fail, and if there’s a single Smugmug site that goes down, you can’t take advantage of the multiple copy geographically distributed storage that is a key advantage of Major cloud providers. Without sounding like fear mongering, I wouldn’t want a single portal to my data located anywhere near LA, SF or the Silicon Valley.

Agreed!

The other thing is, even though Flicker & Smugmug are probably both using Amazon S3, they only handle photo files, not data...S3 direct might be a little more costly, but it will store all your data.

Here is another thought. I just got a notice from SmugMug. "Back up all your images on SmugMug". They were asking me to consider uploading my library.

They advertise: "UNLIMITED, FULL-RESOLUTION PHOTO STORAGE"
Source: https://www.smugmug.com

So if they will take your entire library it might be a good competitive option. Just saying.
https://www.smugmug.com/plans

Last time I looked, Smugmug only stores JPG, no longer stores raw images...for me that is a show stopper as I shoot raw and want my original raw shots backed up.
