Best wishes to you and yours.

Just remember that some Brits refer to July 4th as Thanksgiving!!! 😹

multiple flash popes and 10-poops, that’s impressive dedication to image quality!!!

😹🥴😏😀

Large format macro. I did quite a bit of that for jewelry clients. Not that much extension like in the picture through- 48" maximum.

So...if you have a few of these handy dials (see attached images) you can get into the exposure ballpark as per bellows extension factor. Then add a filter (most chron films required a filter pack) and you have subtracted more light. If you are using tungsten lights with long exposures to compensate for the bellows facto,r that ain't the end of the puzzle. With old transparency films, long exposure brought on reciprocity law failure and color shifts so you sometimes had to add more filters.

You could do the math notice the formulas on the dials) or try to figure out the dials, so frankly, back in the day the best approach was a guess based on previous experience, test with polaroid- get the exposure right and the test for color- so we held the set until the E-6 came back forms the lab and go on from there.

The extension in that picture I estimate about 2.5 to 3.00 meters- that goes beyond the scope of the dials with say, a 15Omm lens on a 4x5 camera would cost you at least 6 stops. The bellows at the front of the camera is a compendium lens shade.

That photographer is well equipped for the job- he's using a Braun Hazy-Light with 4800 watt-second power supply. You need that kinda punch with diffused light when your bellows extension and filters are eating as much as 10 stops. We used similar lighting at my studio and oftentimes had to open the shutter, and in a darkened room with modeling lights off, do multiple flash popes to achieve adequate exposure. If I needed to bracket it cold be 5-pops, 10-poops, and 20- pops to bracket in 1 stop increments.

After doing this 10 or 15 ties I got to hone in on the exposure more expeditiously. On food shot, we still bracketed more because the set could no ber preserved until the lab work was done. We did this is 4x5 and 8x10.

For 8x10 we used an f/12.5 process lens- the 500-watt modeling lams seemed like candles on the ground glass. If you still had your eyesight at the end of the shoot you did get some sharp images.

Nowadays folks argue about "chimping" too much. What I wouldn't have given to have been able to "chimp" back in the bad old days.

The dealer I bought my Canon 80D from told me the new firmware is only readable by Canon service. If I need to know the shutter count I must send the camera to Canon. What a bunch of BS.

I would consider changing your dealer. EOSmsg is Windows only to my knowledge, and licensed for specific cameras - so no good for MTshooter - but it delivers the goods, definitely on the 80D.

Canon changes the way shutter count is available with each DIGIC generation. I haven't researched the question in a while, but possibly an EOS 5DIV can no longer be accessed by anyone other than Canon.

You could try EOSmsg: http://www.eosmsg.com/

It isn’t free, but very cheap, works well and claims support for the 5DIV.

I have 2 Wasabi batteries but have found that the Rav batteries are better as they are larger in lasting power. More amps per battery. Here is the quote from Amazon "Updated RAVPower LP-E6 LP E6N Rechargeable Battery Charger Set,2-Pack 2040mAh Camera Batteries Compatible with Canon EOS 5D Mark II, III, IV, 5DS, 5DS R, 6D, 60D,6D Mark II, 7D, 7D Mark II,70D, 80D" -2 batteries/ plus charger for $33 bucks. In my mind, the Rav has lasted longer in years also- I had a 7D from way back, so I have had batteries for many years. I do night shots plus time-lapse so I have a few batteries- The Rav are better to me!

Another thumbs up for Ravpower. I have four and they have been excellent.

You were ahead of your time, the Canon AE-1 wasn’t released until April 1976!
Back then I had a Russian Zenit E (it still works) and I got one of the first AE-1s available in the UK. It also still works. So does my T90, T3i, and 80D.

My wife had - still has- a Nikon F2n, that also still works.

What a long, strange trip it’s been!

Right now the best processors are AMD.
The 3900x is right in the middle and has 12 fast cores and 24 threads. It also has next gen motherboard support at a price lower than intel.
Intel was king for a long time but got complacent. They've been struggling for a couple of years.

I've heard of a "BUSTLE in your hedgerow," (Led Zeppelin's oblique reference to sexual arousal in "Stairway to Heaven,") but "rustle in the hedgerow"? What's the reference?

I got it wrong originally, corrected shortly after! How are you, good Sir?

I bought another backup Canon battery this past July from B&H. Today it will only take a 51% charge. I called Canon for a replacement and they told me that accessories are not guarantied. After arguing with a supervisor, they agreed to send me a new battery as a courtesy.

I was told by a Canon rep that batteries had a 6 month warranty. It makes me wonder, maybe it’s a bustle in your hedgerow...

Use Canon gear. Don't be foolish.

While I support and respect your comment, it can be more complicated than that.

Any component, mechanical or electronic can fail. I have a T3i, T2i, and 80D.

The T3i came with an additional Power2000 battery. That died earlier this year, but after seven years I think that’s OK. The Canon batteries are still fine.

The 80D was Canon refurb, and seemed to behave erratically. I use battery grips. I bought some Ravpower batteries, and diagnosed that the Canon battery was the problem.

I called Canon, the guy listened and shipped me a new replacement straight away. No problems since.

Defects happen, but good customer service is paramount.
