My DSLR showed me a wonderful optical image in the viewfinder but I what I wanted to see was the digital image that the sensor uses. My mirrorless (a Panasonic) does that.

I find small size a big plus. With a 20mm lens, it fits in a big pocket. The 100-300mm weighs slightly over a pound. It reminds me of my father's Pen half-frame.

The original (download) is much better but, if I wanted to put a small version on the web, I can see some value in the second. Thanks for looking at the small part of our world.

The second photo is overexposed but the effect is great. Is the second a PP edition of the first or an artsy PP version with a longer exposure?

As much as I value online watchdogs, wouldn't it be nice if we had healthy news organizations that filtered out most of the lies before they became "facts".

"You can keep your health plan" Barak screwed up and failed to admit it. He must be the first politician to fall into that category. If the affordable health care act had been in place 50, 30 or even 10 years ago, my life would have been a lot happier. Have you or a family member never been rejected for pre-existing conditions, lifetime limits, disease limits etc.?

A lot of my friends hate Obamacare but they agree with 90% of its provisions, they just hate Obama. I would love to see a Republican plan that addresses our nation's health. Can't we come up with a plan that better than Obamacare? Despite what has been written in the press, 90% of my Canadian friends are very proud of their health care system.

As to the cessation of care at age 76 see Factcheck. http://www.factcheck.org/2014/03/a-false-claim-of-a-medicare-change/

I thought I took my smart pills yesterday but I can't remember. Would modes solve 80% my problems? I think so. I can have set ups for the spotter scope, the astronomical scope and shift to grandchild mode.
I read about modes in the manual but dismissed them because I didn't want "complicated". Now I see that they had me in mind.
If I can ever get my spotting scope to photograph what I see, I'll be posting some stuff on UHH.

Thanks again for your suggestion.

My basic question was: Why do I have this huge optical mirror/pentaprism system when what I want is an electronic viewfinder that mimics my electronic photo.

Last year I got a Panasonic G5 and a few is lenses because small size and it was being discontinued (really cheap). When the GX7 came out, they fixed a lot of the G5 problems. I already had the lenses and I could upgrade buying just the body.

What I like: The 20mm lens takes sharp pictures and I can stuff the whole camera in my pocket. I look funny but I'm past caring. I can use the same camera to digiscope or take shutter vibration free pictures with my telescope. The IA (intelligent auto) settings give me a high quality point and shoot.

Biggest problem, my memory. I like to experiment and I push the settings to extremes. The number of possible settings boggles the mind. How can I go through all the possible settings and discover that I've left the "shoot without lens option left ON". I use "factory reset" often. Obviously, this is not the fault of the camera.

Thanks to help from UHH, I found an adaptor that allows me to reuse my 50 mm 1.4 Pentax Spotmatic

Referencing Kinkle's question, I've had no problems CONNECTING with the WIFI but for some reason my connection is unusably slow.

Olympus vs Panasonic? My last film camera was an OM-10. It was a great camera until it stopped working.

I decided to go the digiscoping route because I didn't want to be locked in any particular lens brand and I wanted a longer reach than I could afford.
My first attempt was a 5" Celestron telescope. It's an amazing piece of equipment. For just $400 and I can take decent telephoto pictures using just the mirror lens (no eyepiece on the scope and no lens on the camera). The problem was bulk.
My current attempt is a 85mm objective Vortex Razor spotting scope on a sturdy tripod. The view through the scope is great but to get decent telephoto shots I need to use an eyepiece with good eye relief and a short focal length lens (20mm) on the camera so I now have three lens systems between me and my subject. Occasionally I get a good image but chromatic aberration problems are frequent. My camera is a Panasonic 4/3rds.
My frustration is knowing that others have used the exact same configuration with great success. I started with: http://www.birds.cornell.edu/Publications/LivingBird/Spring2007/digiscoping.html

My biggest surprise came when I called Vortex and talked to their digiscoping expert. He told me he uses his cell phone. I tried my son's iPhone. It beats my Panasonic!

I haven't given up on digiscoping but I'm starting to look at 4-600 mm telephotos.

1931, 93 MPH not for the faint of heart.
Imagine what would happen if you slammed on the brakes.

I love it when I see that someone made a great picture out of a scene I probably would have ignored. Well done!

Welcome, I'm new here myself.
Sorry for the double post on your sea coast pictures. I thought I sent my reply and I guess I did.
As a geologist, I'm always looking for strange stuff in rocks.
