Have you ever tried calling in hummingbirds? When I was very young, before my dad returned from WWII I lived with my mom on my grandparents farm in Northern Indiana. It was her job to feed the chickens in the morning and I would help. We would go out to the barnyard with our pans of food and she would call out, “chick-chick-chick!” in a high pitched voice. The chickens would come running and peck up the food. It was great fun for me and I’ve discovered I can call in the hummingbirds in a similar fashion by imitating their peeps. Sometimes I can hear them hovering near my cheeks while they wait for me to hang the feeder. If you haven’t already, you can try a whistling psst-psst-psst-psst sound and wait a few minutes for them to get the message. A new flock may have to be reconditioned but they seem to learn quickly. It’s been great fun to make this connection.

I was about to delete this issue of UHH but thought I should reply to your post regarding possible repair of you Zenith Trans Oceanic radio. I just got my R7000 (1980/81) back from a shop in Sacramento where they specialize in these. Doug Wilner was very easy to talk to and we reminisced for quite awhile about "The Good Old Days". My detent had failed a long time ago and I did a home repair on it but the radio was never the same after that. Doug went through it and realigned everything and cleaned all the contacts and switches for $148.00. My brother-in-law had a one similar vintage to yours restored for about the same price. Here's your contact information:

Hope this helps.

A lot of kids came to our place last night. Spider-Man and Guy Fawkes we’re popular costumes for both the boys and girls. The LED accessories were especially fun to see. One little ballerina handed me a small American flag pin after I had dropped a candy bar in her bag. I was pleasantly shocked by that gesture. Kind of made me want to cry for these innocent kids.

Thanks for the feedback. Was a little confused when I got redirected to Photrio. I’ll check it out more thoroughly.

Longtime member here wondering if any of you can recommend a dedicated film photography forum similar to UHH but focused on analog rather than digital. Thanks.

Great shots of a true classic. I was seriously tempted to buy a three wheeler a number of years ago but came to my senses before a divorce. Still love the Morgans though and the era they represent.

The Mon Poulet Hens and the Montgomery 15 and 17 were some of my favorites from the heyday of small boats back in the ‘70’s. A friend of mine sailed a highly modified West Wight Potter from Vancouver up to Juneau back then. I declined to accompany him.

The trees make it a tough architectural shot. Back in the early sixties while working for Studebaker I visited the museum here. There was a beautiful Mercedes Benz 300SL center stage. Studebaker had a fleeting relationship with them which appeared in Lark styling cues. Thanks for posting this.

Fact is, this has happened twice for me over a 3yr period. I generally keep my iPhone (no cover or case) in the right back pocket of my jeans to which the wear outline will attest. They are laundered once a week with no special attention given to lint. The grayish color of the accumulation would suggest it’s coming primarily from that pocket. So even though I could never squeeze the RX100 into them, I believe the prudent thing to do is to use the belt pouch recommendations. I’m a little surprised none of you have ever had to deal with this but maybe I would see it on a iPhone forum. In the meantime consider this cautionary. Thanks for your comments.

Even though there are no reports of damage caused by pocket lint, I believe the message is clear: “why take a chance.” For The price of belt pouch it’s not worth it. Thanks.

I just finished picking lint out of the charging socket of my iPhone and thought I should ask if this could happen to my RX100 or any of the other "pocket cameras" out there. Do you think they are built tight enough to avoid this hazard? Are those sliding blinds that protect the lens vulnerable?

Keep in mind that a large part of the cost you pay an audiologist is for future follow up adjustments which would not be available from the bargain priced web or mail order suppliers. Not sure how the new rules regarding OTC hearing aids will effect the market.
