So with 12mp camera, current iPhones should be able to make enlargements up to a size that the Nikon D300 could ~10 years ago, unless there's some other new sharpening technology involved...and assuming that the much tinier lenses are of equal resolving quality. Are they? Does DXO do a test comparison like this?

thanks all. Lots of good info and perspective here! And in general, phone cameras are better than I thought for enlargements per this info.

How large a shot can you tack sharp print using a phone camera? And which ones are best?

Interesting that Seagate in this key group has lost ground to WD. It used to be the reverse!

They seem to be the priciest. Are they also still the best?

I've had a number of repairs done at Nikon HQ in USA on Long Island, NY, most recently 2 months ago. Pretty fast, fair, nice and thorough. Not inexpensive. Still, I recommend highly. BTW, ages ago (like 40+ years) Nikon US was owned by/part of Ehrenreich Photo. But that is before they really got going and is ancient history.

[quote=Dngallagher]I can say from my years using TB1 & 2 I have not seen any issues. \

Thanks for all the info Don!

Don, also, I've used an Apple cinema display happily as a second screen with TB...until recently when it too inexplicably sadly stopped working, perhaps after a recent Apple software update.

Don, you're right and not right. Apple was embarrassed that TB, tho fast, didn't work reliably. They re-did it to Thunderbolt 2 which was better but still gave out inexplicably after a time. Thunderbolt 3 is actually as I understand it reconfigured USB3 as you say, with different connectors that won't work with my Thunderbolt 2 boxes. At least so I was told. So I was advised a year ago to get a "new" iMac off Apple's rebuilt but guaranteed as new list that still had the TB 2 connections. So that's what I have. It's interesting that the TB has worked reliably for you. I've heard of other horror stories. I suppose the fault could be with the Lacie drives as takes 2 to tango! You don't say but were you able to keep your old TB1 or 2 HDs to work with the TB3?

JRM21 what is the best duplicate finder? I use Gemini which works ok, but doesn't see ratings. All my best shots are star rated.

Longshadow, it is confusing i agree. Part of my problem is that I keep my most important recent photos in my iMac with a 3TB internal drive. The older photos are now in an external 12 TB Lacie drive, mostly originals catalogued by Lightroom. I actually got another multi TB drive that backs up that drive; a separate Time Machine drive does an overall BU for the iMac. Yes, seriously needs simplifying, but since Thunderbolt no longer works for Apple a big challenge and of course LR has lost the locations. BTW, in the old days I also backed up on CDs, then DVDs, never threw them out. Have dozens. Should throw them now, but have the nagging thought that from my Microsoft days I didn't get all my precious shots transferred. Just to add a final capper, as Don does, I now have the Amazon safety back up for the photos it can find, which are all from my iMac but only some from the Lacie. The Amazon system is actually quite good, but also slow with my 200 wifi.

Jerry I agree. I don't think the old drives, which I've now found and counted number 12, are worth anything. I'm planning to drill a hole in them and recycle.
