A good series of photographs with superb Autumnal colours.
I particularly like the angle of the last photograph.
Well taken.

Thank you Leicaflex. I got out in the middle of the road for the last one. A bit scary!!

Gorgeous! Love the combo of the fall color and the dramatic sky. Like the road shot too. All nicely done.

I thought these rather flat until I downloaded them, then WOW, well done. These are the colors I have been waiting for.

Thank you Bill. I think the clouds and ambient light had something to do with the perceived "flatness". Thanks for stopping by.

Outstanding group of images. All are beautiful, but my favorite is #5. A great photo, and I always like photos of lakes and rivers.

Thank You tbell. It seems most of my photos involve some sort of water, so I love them too!

One of the most scenic areas in all of New York State, Route 97 hugs the Delaware River. The view from Hawk's Nest is probably the most beautiful location of them all. The clouds are real, the colors are real....and if the photos seem like the scene was surreal....it was

A very pleasing set of photos Rizer. After taking a look at each one, I am picking the second as favorite. Just like the light and composition.

Thank you tbell the first two are my favs. Interestingly enough, I asked for some advice for #2 in my post "does this photo work"? Got some great advice and some "spirited" debate on the photo.

You're right about one part ...... the eye will focus on something sharp and ignore what is blurred. However, it is ALSO true, and maybe moreso, that the eye is drawn to something bright and stays away from what is dark. Your rocks are too dark, while the white waves command all the attention. This could be fixed in PP by working on the tonal values, making the water darker and less distinct, while sharpening the rocks, and brightening them up so they would pop from the background.

Bob, thanks again for your input. How have you been?

I'm going with Bob Yankle more or less here with his analysis.

Further more, yes the rocks look interesting themselves, but if it were my shot, shot as it is, I'd crop the entire bottom half of the image out. Seascapes unlike flowers are typically sharp for focus throughout, but may certainly have motion blur. You might have tried a slow shutter speed (1/15 to 1/8 s; use a tripod if necessary) yet higher f-stop (8-11-16 depending lens and where you focus) to have de-emphasized the waves, leaving the rocks sharp. Out of focus and motion blur look very different (to most of us). You can try something like this again sometime. Other replyers gave you good ideas for salvaging this image.

I like your idea or intent. Your are thinking of various ways to make an image look. Just for most of us, the technique or execution needs a little work. You'll likely get it or get close to what you want next time.

In retrospect, I think I should have used either f8 or f11. However, the suggestions here of lowering the exposure on the waves, and dodging the rocks a bit has certainly helped the image to be what I intended. Thanks for your thoughtful input.

Well, I'll weigh in here, since I'm a newbie and just trying to pick up a few tips. I think your photo is great. It led my eyes to the rocks right away. However, if I was taking that photo I would crank up the aperture to about f8 and try for greater DOF, trying to get the wave and everything in focus. I see the shutter at 200 and the ISO pretty high, but I would still take several shots trying for full focus.

In retrospect, I agree I should have gone with either F8 or even f11. Thanks for commenting.
