I don’t think the 409 was available with the powerglide; a 4-speed was the only option. If I’m wrong, I stand corrected.

Sorry to tell you you are wrong my 409 as the GM 700 R4 automatic transmission,
It was an expensive option in 1961 a lot of people didn’t opt for it it was either that or the four-speed ,..the two speed powerglide would’ve gotten ripped apart with that engine

She's a beaut! I had a '59 hard top and loved it. As I recall, your car rolled pretty nice and had oomph to spare!

You’re correct that 409 gets up and goes real quick and if I really nail the gas pedal she’ll knock your head back in the seat

Very nice car.

I've always had a soft spot for the Impalas. In high school there were a lot of them from the 60's. Abundant, cheap and easily hot rodded. A good friend restored a '60 convertible with his dad for his first car. Beautiful. The kid next door had a '65. The twins on the next block over had a pair of '64 convertibles.
I know what you mean I remember the old days at the drive - in

My first car was a '68. (I was trying to find a '65.) Not the coolest looking but, got it for a great price. And it was almost rust free. That's saying a lot for a MN car. Bought it from a little old lady that only drove it on Sunday. Literally. Didn't have the heart to tell her what my plans were for it. Lol.

Raced and drove the heck out of it for about 5 years. Had a ton of fun in it....in more ways than one.
Very nice car. br br I've always had a soft spot... (show quote)
