Seeing the old guy in there makes me want to start training now. By next year, I’ll be able to take a crack at the 100 meter marathon.

Thanks. Good idea. Sometimes 100 meters seems like a marathon.

Local runners in Chicago are posting about a great race and a few PRs. Thanks for some other views of the event.

Thanks for commenting. It was a very fast race. Already looking forward to next year. I'm not sure if there were more racers (30k) or volunteers. Just drove part of the course into town. Not one trace, errant paper cup, or any evidence of the marathon.

Good stuff! Would have been nice to be there--as a spectator, not a runner.

I look forward to the marathon annually. Great photo ops. Every year is different.

Hit send rather than choose file.

A couple who drove from NH to volunteer. He is, like me, a Penn State grad. I was wearing my oldest sweatshirt which prompted a "We Are . . . "

BC includes a massive water station. Would love to know how many cups went through.

The higher the bib number the slower the qualifying time. The number determines starting time.

A friend of one of the men living in our satellite community. A tad old but he did it. Took this around 3:30 PM. Race started at 9:30. The road at BC opened to traffic at 4:45.

Marathon ran yesterday as it does annually on the third Monday of April, Patriot's Day, a unique MA holiday. I'm not certain who impresses me more, the runners or the army of volunteers. There were 30k runners. The weather was great for the runners with temps in mid 50s and periods of rain, including a short downpour. It was not quite as ideal for spectators or waiting several hours in a corral for the non-elite groups to go. I live about 100 yards off the course at mile 21 on Commonwealth Ave. Ideal to take only what I need, return home to change lenses, or, as was true yesterday to dry off and warm up. Boston College is just below the crest of Heartbreak Hill.

The sign is here annually. A reminder that it is, in fact, all downhill from here.

The wheelchair racers begin earlier and finish much earlier. Because of the weather which varied between drizzle and downpour, traction and friction of gloves on wheels was a problem.

Evan, on the right, won for the second consecutive year. Interesting fact. Elite runners bibs have their last name except for the winner of the previous year who has his first name.

interesting shots, and I appreciate what your finding them when many would not see them at all.

Thanks. Silence and solitude are important to seeing those things. I was alone. No TV, radio, etc (and I would not think of going to the internet there) allow seeing in different ways and noticing little things.

Very nice set, the first one really sets the tone..

Thanks. The challenge with the kitchen in the winter is the painted concrete floor. I rarely wear shoes or socks indoors. I kept forgetting to put something on while I was there.

The title of a great song by Three Dog Night who served as much of the soundtrack of my teens and twenties. Underrated group. Escaped Boston to spend some time in a very rural setting helping with the complex liturgies at a rural monastery. Great weekend but exhausting. All the photography was done indoors. No energy to put shoes.

All shot with EM1 mk ii and either the 12-40 2.8 or 75-300/ 4.8-6.7.

The kitchen fulfills all criteria for rustic. As does the wiring.

Great B&Ws.

Thanks. Unless it is overcast with only a hint of color I prefer to convert snow shots to black and white.

You got out just in time FrJack. We had over 48" in 72 hours. Never in my eighty years have I seen a storm like this. A terrible beauty.

I'd heard. Had I known it was coming I'd have planned to stay longer. Was snowed in there before after 20" landed in about 24 hours. No complaints. Got some fantastic shots.
