I said it was the first one I ever saw in late 2008. Not the first Nikon full frame manufactured. I knew already, the D3 was Nikon's first full frame camera.

Oh..., I am sorry, I didn't read carefully.

Both the D700 and the D610 have been discontinued. The D700 is the very first Nikon full frame camera I saw on display at a photo shop in late 2008. Although, I don't remember the exact new in the box price. It was expensive for the time. When some Nikon's get old, spare repair parts for a camera are sometimes unavailable. Making your camera non repairable by Nikon USA. Nikon has announced, there will be no DSLR successor to the D610. The D610 was a replacement to the D600, which some of them were problematic. Get the D750, if you plan to go full frame. Spend the money. You won't be sorry. Get a shutter clicks count too. Good luck.

D700 is the second nikon full frame, introduced in 2008. The very first Nikon FF camera is D3 came out in 2007.

Anybody have experience with these two, I have the D700 and was wondering if the D610 is much of a step up

Depends what you do with the camera. If you do video and crop often then go for D610.
The handling is better with D700, better weather sealing, full magnesium body.

I think the main advantage of D700 is AF. It is superior, the spread of the AF points is better, and it's more accurate especially if you shoot in low light. D610 can't compete with D700 in terms of AF.

I appreciate your feedback but I have purchased the D5600

Good choice. I have been using fuji for 2 years now, while i like it i reach for d5500 much more often. I find it more comfortable and overall better to use. I guess i am more dslr guy. As far as IQ - both are very good.

Easy to use. Excellent IQ. Light. Good low light performance.

All is true. As a D5500 owner I would add that thanks to the excellent grip it’s easy to hold the camera even with the larger lens. Also, with the touch screen and “i” button I can easily change almost any setting very quickly. Very happy with D5500.

FWIW: I upgraded last night, been running it all day, smooth as silk... no issues other then a couple apps that will not work, nothing to worry about, useless apps pretty much anyway taking up disk space ;) I also had just added a Thunderbolt attached SSD using Mojave, then saw Catalina was available so went for the Gusto! :)

Looking good so far.

No problem here also. Upgraded both my iMac and laptop to Catalina, both running well. The new Catalina didn't like my Raw Therapy version, uninstalled it, not a big deal. Maybe I'll try to reinstall it later. Everything else works fine.

Good morning.

My brother left me three camera's and various lenses and I was wondering which I should keep. I have a Nikon D700, D7100 and D5100 with assorted lenses. Nikon 24mm F2.8, 28mm F2.8, 70-200 F2.8, 55-200 f4-5.6, 18-55 F3.5-5.6 and 24-70 F2.8 (has mold on interior glass).

Thanks.

I have experience with two of your cameras. D700 and D5100. I really loved my d5100 and regretted when I sold it. It has a very good 16mp sensor. I wish Nikon would still make DX cameras with 16mp. Fully articulated screen on D5100 could be very helpful. Excellent camera for traveling. I would probably replace your 18-55 and 55-200 for 18-140 or 18-200. I am using now 18-140 - very good lens. Shoot for some time with both cameras (D7100 and D5100) and see what you prefer.
As for mold in the lens. I would do my best trying to fix/clean the lens. Go to your local camera store, some stores offer repairs. If not they will advice you what to do. In a meantime remove any filter from the lens and exposed the lens to sunlight for a few days.
I still use my D700 and have no desire to replace it with newer camera. Do you know what is the shutter count on the camera?
With D700 + 24-70 and 70-200 you are ready for almost everything. Fixing your 24-70 would be the only expense and after that you’ll be all covered.

Good to hear!
Hope you continue to have good luck with it.
I have a 14-24 and the 24-70.
Don’t use the 14-24 as much as I expected.
A 17-35 would probably be used more.

Yes, that's the reason I decided to replace my primes 20, 24,28 and 35mm with one pro quality gold ring Nikon zoom. It gives me convenience and flexibility and it'll be used much more.

I found pretty impressive comments on this lens.

Understood. If the one you are looking at makes noises while focusing it will soon need a focusing motor according to Nikon Tech Support. That cost, IF parts are available, would render that copy of no value. Best of luck.

Thank you for your advice. I ended up buying the lens. It makes no sound while focusing. Everything seems to work like supposed to so far. It's heavy with D700 but feels good, very solid lens.
Even if the focusing motor will go bad I will use manual focus, no problem. On the lens that wide MF is easy and quick, at F8 or F11 almost everything is in focus. I did a few quick test shots. Center sharpness is really good, edges are a little softer, I expected that.

Thank you everyone for your input.

The one I'm looking at costs almost half as much.

I have owned one since they first came out and still have it. I did replace the AF-s motor after about 9 years of use. It still worked but the squeak was getting loud. It is extremely sharp in the center but that diminishes as you move toward the edges. There is some vignetting @ f/4.0 and wider.

I imagine some of the newer lenses are better at a lower price. However, I have no intentions of replacing mine. If buying used at a good price go for it.

OpticalLimits (used to be photozone.de) confirm what you said: center sharpness is excellent with very good corners. I can live with very good. Newer lenses could be better, but this old lens works very well with D700 and feels great while shooting. Thank you for your input.

Yes, I read about it too. The one am looking at is focusing okay: almost instant and quite.

Thinking about getting used Nikon 17-35mm f2.8D to go with my D700. I played with it a little, it’s quite heavy, built quality is excellent. I like Nikon D lenses. The focusing and zooming are internal.
The lens was introduced in 1999 and is still available new for $1952.
There are many different reviews and opinions on line. Would like to hear about your experience with the lens. Thank you.

It's on the east side of Lake City Way, just south of 125th st. (in the heart of Lake City). They do film processing, printing and/or scanning, as well. I just bought an immaculate, 50 year-old Nikkor 35-70 MM, f/3.5 macro lens there for $60.

Thank you, I don't go there often, usually I go to Kenmore Camera, it's another good store.

I bought my first "real" camera in 1969, when I entered the Air Force and suddenly had a bit of $$$. I just bought the D850 in May. I cleaned up my F (The light meter still works!), bought some film and batteries at a local shop that deals only in film cams (good luck with that), and am excited to do some comparison shooting.

Since these are my only two working "real" cameras, I shot this with an ancient Kodak "EasyShare" point-and-shoot, hence the low res.

Can please tell me where is the shop that deals only with film cameras, it would be fun to visit it. I live in Woodinville area. Thank you.
