I have a Nikon D300 and a D610, largest lens is a Tamron 70-200mm or the Nikon 105mm f/2.8 VR Micro (fairly heavy)
Ebay: many sellers have the part, you can pay for $1.00 to $40.00 here's the link: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=nikon+18-105mm+mount+metal&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xnikon+18-105mm+mount+.TRS0&_nkw=nikon+18-105mm+mount+&_sacat=0
Here are several videos that show how to replace the mount: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=nikon+18-105mm+replace+mount
I bought the Desmond DLOW-55 and returned it because of it's size. The ball head itself is about the size of a big grapefruit. The unit is very well made and looks very durable and of course not as well made as the RRS-55 but it's pretty close. The base diameter of the ball head is 70mm which is close to 3 inches and hung over the side of the tripod base plate about 3/4 inch. If it hadn't been so large I would have kept it, I didn't try the DLOW-40, it is the smaller brother of the DLOW-55 and has a base of 57mm about 2-1/4 inches which would fit the tripod legs better. I ended up getting two Demon DB-46 ball heads ~$80 each at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Demon-DB-46-Tripod-Compatible-Plate/dp/B014EIZE1I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1477412249&sr=8-1&keywords=demon+db-46), one for each tripod. The Demon head is a very solid ball head with no camera drop when tightening the ball. I am very happy with my decision and ended up with two new ball heads for the price of one Desmond DLOW-55.
This is a great site for checking out any on-line seller for any products not just electronics. http://www.resellerratings.com

The Velcro is a good idea.
I agree with the use of Velcro -- Thanks for the info Thomas -- Great idea.
Looks pretty good Thomas and nice review, I see them on ebay now for ~$47.00 -- Does the unit just rely on the USB connector to secure it to the camera body? Does it get in the way of holding the camera? Thank you Thomas
I understand they swapped the position of the Zoom and Focus rings on this lens for those interested. See here: http://photographylife.com/nikon-70-200mm-f2-8e-fl-vr-handling-concerns
It's interesting that they are all green except for that little toupe/Yarmulke on it's head. Nice capture by the way.
Nice job fallriverguy -- In number 1, are the white specks the eggs? I've never seen dragonfly eggs

Looks like the ball head is missing the piece that screws into the bottom of the camera so you can attach it to the ball head.
Also I can't tell from the monopod picture how the camera mounts. It looks like there is some kind of loop. Or do you need to mount the ball head on it and then attach the camera?
I believe the loop is for your hand to go through just like ski poles have.

One last thought: I had not run across the Haoge brand before so I did a search in Amazon and found that they make all kinds of goodies. A-S plates and clamps, light modifiers & various 'arms' and brackets.
I have purchased 2-3 Haoge Arca-Swiss plates and they are of very good quality, I would buy a nodal slide from them if the plates were an indication of quality.
Every shot has such great textures Angela, would love to shoot there.
I've been looking at this rail, I like the fact that it has a long travel distance and the whole base is an arca-swiss cutout with a scale:

Beautiful black & white work, really like them Kevin
