750 had a shutter recall. Check the Nikon site for the serial numbers affected

Thanks. Will do.

Is it possible they botched the cleaning? Anyway, I wish you luck in solving, hopefully "low cost" luck!!

I'll have to review some recent photos, but I'm pretty sure that the problem was present before I brought it in for cleaning.

I just got off the phone with the repair shop. I'm told that the D750 can sometimes have problems with the shutter, possibly a broken leaf. They say it's more frequently an issue at faster shutter speeds. I'm going to run a more extensive set of test shots at different speeds and with each of my lenses before proceeding.

I don't see any way it won't need service, though. Hopefully it's reparable and affordable, as it's well out of warranty.

UPDATE: Preliminary tests seem to verify their theory. It's definitely more apparent at faster shutter speeds, and begins to fade at around 1/640 to 1/500. I'll have to adjust accordingly for this weekend, unfortunately. Not the best news for someone like myself whose hands seem to be getting less steady, but I suppose it could be a lot worse.

Hopefully a sensor cleaning will cure it.

Unfortunately chances are slim, as it was just recently cleaned by the repair shop.

And in anticipation of the next question, the problem was noticed before this last cleaning.

So, when you put the hood back into its proper usage location, aka 'on', what are the results? I'd certainly make that verification before engaging in any $$$ related actions.

Looks like I was mistaken after all.

Thanks to your inquiries, I decided to test the lens on another camera, and saw no halo.

In spite of not having noticed the anomaly using other lenses previously, I took some shots with my 50/1.4 and sure enough it is there, so apperantly it's an issue with the D750. Hoping my local repair shop can figure it out.

Steve did you have the lens hood on or off when you tried without filter?

The lens hood was off.

The camera probably will still take a picture inside a building or house also.

Understood, but I wanted to use a sky background. Unfortunately, the halo is still there without the filter. That would have been great if it was as simple as that.

Looks like a trip to Nikon is in its near future.

Take filter off and take a few test shots.

You may be onto something. I removed the (clear) filter and took a couple of shots, and could not see the halo. However, it was just before sundown and had gotten pretty dim.

I'll try again in the morning. Maybe experiment with attaching the filter at various degrees of tightness and see if the halo moves accordingly.

Thanks.

P.S. Filter is B+W XS Pro Digital007 clear MRC Nano 77mm.

Lens has not been dropped. I’ll have to check which type of filter is on when I get home. I believe it is UV.

An issue has developed with my lens. A halo appears on the right side of the image. It appears whether or not I use my lens hood, and at various zoom lengths. Any guesses what the problem might be? It does not appear when using any other lens.

Attached images were taken facing AWAY from the sun.

You don't HAVE to shoot RAW, but you should...

While learning, if you record both raw and JPEG files, you can experiment with each and determine for yourself what the adjustment limits are for each type of file, and more fully understand what to do to cope with those limits.

You don't need two slots to record JPEG and raw files at the same time. But that can help you keep them separate, if that's your goal.

The EDS 1275 was used live as a matter of convenience and for showmanship. In the studio the following were used
For acoustic parts 1960s Harmony Sovereign H1260.
For the body of the song 1965 Fender XII (12 string Stratocaster )
For the solo of the song a 1959 Fender Telecaster. Just FYI

Not the most pertinent info, but good to know someone cares about the details!

Simple white balance adjustments are my primary reason for using RAW.

I've recovered harsh, horrendous WB errors with raw files. I concur.

I can't speak for other software, but LR does not give me nearly as precise control of WB of JPEGs as it does with raw files.
