I agree that Sierra Photos is very good -each new application they offer is pretty good for editing and general work.

I have all kinds of cameras but I still find SLRs especially ones with optical viewers-much faster taking shots-for family or candid shots hands down-also better with shaky hands with age. I'm thinking of selling my mirrorless for these reasons. To each their own.

The more the lenses the greater the cost-usually-the lens has an inner and outer curve the difference between the curves produces the focal point of that lens-the moving of the focal points of the lenses determines where the final focal point meets the sensor -apparently the cost of the product with more lenses used allows more light transmission and that's what you pay for-and also the larger 1st lens allows more light in to start. Also the quality of the individual lenses enters in. I had classes as an Optician in my early career on this subject -hope that helps some! Also a 2.8 prime lens needs only to focus at 1 point requiring fewer lenses possibly and less light lost in transmission.

But the amount of noise introduced by ISO has decreased by % s as the light increases in modern cameras in the last 10 years-and sensors have been modified to increase light or sensor modification. I feel the look of film is more closely captured with the original CCD sensors, but that's a whole new topic. Now who remembers that film look that early kodak sensors had. Minolta used them with great success in their early SLR cameras. ISO and low light suffered hence the race for light sensitivity was on-and is still.

I agree that aperture equals aperture-but ISO has been changing higher over the years and that helps make the amount of light available in newer cameras important especially in lower light applications. The technology really changes the equation of the magic triangle of shooting-my Sony RX100 also has a lens of 1.8 in point and shoot with a 1in lens so modern technology makes more light available. Cell phones use it too by helping low light shots but sacrifice shutter speed and iso usually.
It's more complex today than just Looking at lenses apertures! Newer cameras bring much more light while keeping very sharp quality shots. Sensor technology is much more a part of the equation when I shoot at 300mm I can now go to 2000 iso and find little change in the resulting quality, which helps the f5.6 aperture opening at a faster shutter speed-why buy the faster more expensive lens when I still need more light? although- The quality of the larger lens will bring out more detail by its very design. Olympus has designed about as much quality as one can get with 4/3 sensors and high Iso design-in my opinion. But that's not the topic. Just saying times they are a changing!

Try to set the focus on center point -then check it on manual and see if it is better. Maybe go to menu and do a camera reset the kids may need to reset the cameras after another student messes with the menu-center point focus is the default setting for sharpness-that and getting them to see the point of focus on the screen itself. They are just beginners -baby steps. They need to learn the ap.shutter speed ,and Iso, concepts first-I make them shoot Manual to learn this. Good luck it's a steep learning curve of at least 3 lessons! But it pays off for those wanting full expression. I try not to flood them with too much at once, but the students who are serious will appreciate it.

I have a G1X canon and had it converted -am quite happy with it-also it seems to be sharp at all distances vs. a sir with 1 particular lens-I use it about 1 time per month and in the summer more than that-good luck! I also had it set up to about 780 which is a normal conversion-but not full color they said.

I have a strong rt hand shake and find a small SLR with a 24 120 is lens better for balance than my mirrorless cameras-which need to be held out to get the quickest picture and give greater shake-I know use the eye viewer but it seems to take longer. Also the SLR seems to focus quicker and shoot quicker. I get shots between shakes which occur every second or so- the SLR is a Nikon d3400 it just is faster and has facial support also. The shake is way to great taking more than a second and I also shoot with high s. speed. Which helps. Good luck-I use a tripod and remote shutter with birds from inside during winter. Then the Oly oM 5d mirrorless works great. Very quick. Hope this helps!

It has a larger wing span than a Great Horned Owl-I think we call it a Barn Owl also-most owls have that killer instinct -don't want to mess with them but show respect.

I just use a usb card reader and the cord out to the computer is usb to USBC-but I use sw cards-simple solution use a sw card when loading from the card reader -when you want to go directly to your computer and the other card when you want its benefits and load from the camera to the sw card-soon the USBC card reader will come along-also try apple and see if the have a simpler solution- Converter cable is short and under 20.00 and has other uses also.
