Everyone should be allowed to try their own ideas, even the wrong ones.

What about the photographer - or don't they count anymore? - must be down to AI addled brains!

When you change to a mirrorless camera, you already know you're a better photographer.

Raw isn't just a file format, it's a way of life. We see the world not through our viewfinder, but in the output of our software. In this sense, the purpose of RAW is an act of the imagination.

Raw isn't just a file format, it's a way of life. RAW gives a sense of purpose and a sense of belonging to a worldwide community of photographers, all dedicated to maximizing the pixel resolution of their cameras.

Mirrorless cameras are a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. Images captured from behind a mirror are cold, heartless and uncaring.

Raw isn't just a file format, it's a way of life. RAW is one of the true wonders of modern digital photography. Many times while editing my RAW files, I begin to see my connection to the fabric of the universe.

I save raw and Fine*/Large JPEGs of all my exposures. I am also very careful with my pre-exposure camera choices, metering pattern, white balance, and ISO choices. I do not use Auto ISO or Auto White Balance (unless there is a compelling reason to make a different choice).

During the recent eclipse, I had decided to focus on what was happening on the ground, since our local viewing conditions were not ideal. At the last minute, during totality I decided to see what I could do with my D500 and 16-80mm zoom hand-held. Here is my result. The only real "trick" is that I used Highlight Weighted Metering." EXIF data should be intact for the rest of the story. This photograph has not been altered since leaving the camera.

Alas, the digital noise baked-into this ISO-6400 JPEG is completely unacceptable. The RAW image with 2024-grade software would yield a far, far better result.

Raw isn't just a file format, it's a way of life. The higher possibilities of photography can be awakened and developed only from the RAW files.

No - all my RAW edits are always superior to anything the camera could create.

When the new models ended, DSLRs passed into legend. And mirrors became myth. And by 2024 only those with the longest beards could remember a time when photography was limited by mirrors.

Sadly, none of the images / versions have the bird flying toward the camera / looking toward the viewer. Ditch them all and find a better original to edit, beginning with a better pose of the wildlife subject.
