Stopped at the Mount Goliath Natural Area, part of the Arapaho & Roosevelt National Forest. A bit late in the season, and dry, but still interesting. A good community of Bristlecone Pines, purportedly among the oldest living things on Earth. Oldest known 5,000 years of age. DF AF S 24-120 1:4 G ED

Your experienced eye allowed you to pick great subject matter, and your equipment more than did it's job!

I see only one improvement to this outstanding photograph. The brownish area in the lower-left corner area should go black, in keeping with the black-and-white effect overall.

Your photograph works because of its perfect composition, its balance of graphic elements, its striking immediacy to the eye, its gentle touch from the bird in repose, the frame-within-a frame, and its contrasting elements. The silhouette effect makes the photograph bang out at the viewer. You have a winner here.

Your critique is both educational and encouraging, thank you for taking the time to do that. It is the thing that keeps us growing.

It was very late in the day when my feathered friend finally got close enough to shoot. By then the light was fading fast. I converted the image to B&W and filed it. Thought it might be worth sharing!

The 8 year old df can still go head to head with many of today's newer models, it's a special purpose camera. If you like the looks of a well restored 56 Thunderbird, you'll love the df.

I agree, and the fact that the Df has a D4s sensor & processor (and remember that the D4 was the flagship of the fleet and sold for 6500.00). It is also hand built from machined parts in house, in Japan and each camera was tested and inspected before being shipped. It is interesting that the most negative statements always seem to come from the crowed that never owned one or used on to any degree. I always had a special love//lust for the Canon 5DMIII but never popped my mouth off about the good/bad characteristics of the camera because I was never blessed with one. I have had the Df since July of 2014 and can testify that it has been a true joy to own and use.

We found this red round barn near Vallonia, Indiana, on a Hoosier Heritage Farm (a farm that has been in the same family for 100 or more years).

Wonderful find John, You do have the ability to find some unique farm buildings! What is more important is the fact that you are able to do some great photography and share the find. Thank you!

Yes, I know. Some will ask, "what the heck are you doing with all the gear?" As with most GAS suffers there's a rational, no matter how silly. The Df was my first FF and I loved the retro controls. It reminded me of my favorite film cameras and it's still a topnotch low light camera. The D5600 was a replacement for my D5300 which my son commandeered. I needed it for my on going slide duplicating project. The D850 is reputed to be the penultimate DSLR so it's almost a bucket list item. Then along comes the Zfc which is even more retro and a lightweight package plus mirror less to boot. So, there is logic no matter how warped.

Thanks for this comparison Dave, it answered a few final questions for me, mine will be here Wed. Looking forward to seeing and using it. It will look good next to my Df.

Henry could take a bow on that one. I found a black one in 1957, it was stored in a garage and forgotten until I made an offer, then the whole family decided they wanted it. I had to smile, couldn't blame them!
