Hello everyone, I went for a walk along the beach today to take pics of seagulls. I dont normally take bird pics as,
1, I dont think my camera is up to it, "cant get close enough"
2, I dont think im up to it.
Believe it or not this is the best bird photo I have taken ever, and its not that good. I decided to post this to show how good, your bird photo's are, most of them stunning, amazing and any other word that describes some of our members photographs. C&C always welcome, because Ive got a long way to go. It was blowing a gail today and I took the photo hand held, Ive cropped it, first ever post edit too. Ive put both versions for you to compare. thanks everyone. :? pip

Thanks gregory, I didn't make it easy for myself by wanting Roker lighthouse in the shot as well. It was luck rather than skill that got it. I dont think bird photographs is the way to go for me at present, it must take a lot of skill and patience to turn out some of the shots our members have shown. Thanks again, and Im pleased you liked it :D pip

I found black headed gulls to be the tamest to photograph but it does of course depend where you are.

They can get a bit vicious up here in the wild north

I take my pics of birds at a place called Himley Hall (try google) and we get the occasional herring gull or lesser black backed gull and those normally stay towards the centre of the pool, birds in flight are certainly the hardest subject to do and the bigger the bird the easier to capture.
I have used my Sony a200 and a57 both with good results.
Keep up the good work.

Ran across the photo of the ice hanging from the mountain when driving the Blue Ridge Parkway. Even in the middle of the day there was frost on top of the mountains.

Great shots Jean, especially the first two  pip

It has been the coldest winter in over 25 years here in northeast China.

Taking advantage of the cold weather, city planners asked some artisits create snow sculptures at some local parks.

I added one of the pictures with the taxi to show the movment of the city traffic to the proximity of the sculptures. It was also nice to see Minnie Mouse holding a SLR camera.

Wow awsome, its a different world  pip

I was working out in the yard yesterday and this beauty decided to hang out for a very long while. First in one Oak. Then another. Then to my neighbors yard. Then the power pole in the back. Then to the Sycamores in the front.
It was a pleasure to have his company for most of the day.

I just took a look at your camera on dpreview and it looks pretty decent. It shoots RAW and jpeg normal and fine. When mine looks like that it's either the subject is too far away or ISO is set too high. I don't know. Wait just a bit and someone that knows more about it then me will be along. Sorry

Thanks tramsey, pip
