I found a site that shows the order of the wires. There is EIA568A and 568B I have the B. I'm going to play around with it again later today. Do you use a tester? I'm wondering if my original attempt would have worked with #4 wire not connected.

I always recommend a tester. 568A and 568B are the two configurations. These cables use pins 1 and 2 to transmit on and pine 3 and 6 to receive on. Those are the two pairs of wires that are switched between the 568A and 568B configurations. Your wire with the bad number 4 wire probably would have worked.

I just tried again, it it worked fine. I made up a 7' cable with two working connectors. Whoopee!

But now you are in danger of having your recent award repealed!!!!

Okay, Thank you very much for your reply. I checked out the site yet I did not see any where, where he stated that he could control the camera. So If you can live view using this, then I should be able to use one of my apps,ie;backyard eos or canon eos utility then correct? Have you personally used this device? Thanks again, Tim p.s. I think I will buy this and see for myself. thank you again.

Okay, I needed to change the title heading and couldn't. So I am asking again and change up the questions a little. I want to wirelessly tether my Canon T4i to my windows computer. What I want to do is live view and operate the camera without hard wiring it. Come on now, with all the technology out there, there has to be a way to do this. You can wirelessly tether your telescope to your computer why not your camera? If you can run it via attaching usb cables, why not wireless? I need to be 50 feet away and using usb that far even with a booster, the signal degrades. Are there any tech savvy individuals on here that have figured this out? Would appreciate any and all replies. Thank you, Tim

Think at times, the wife would like me to have this award,I hate winter! Too cold to want to go outside so don't get too excited about getting things done. Thank goodness she still works otherwise would drive each other crazy. Kudos Jerry

Thanks to all who have replied. Does Nikon have the ability to wirelessly tether their cameras for live view and operation?? If so why wouldn't Canon have the same option? You would think that with all the technology we have nowadays this would be an option on all DSLr's. Tim

I have heard great things about DSLR Remote Pro. Myself trying out now backyard EOS trial version. The only problem with these solutionsis tethering to a PC. I don't want my PC out there for raccoons to jump it.

I am also looking for something that lets me control the camera from inside in the coziness of the house while the camera is out there in the cold of the night, saving to SD card. Not interested in saving directly to PC. Of what I have read, IMO, I think that the solution is DSLR Remote.

---Backyard, where is the manual? --- Don't think I will go for it though it has lots of features and saves to PC.

Wireless tethering is what I am looking to do. I need a distance of 50 feet and hard wire tethering at that distance does not work because of the signal degradation. Also I do not want to have to keep an eye on my mount to make sure I don't have wire wrap. This would occur when hooked up to my computerized German equatorial CG5 telescope mount. Thinking about and option that a friend of mine has. He built a blue tooth device that would allow me to do live view shooting. Checking it out.

Try an USB active extension cable. Amazon has a variety of lengths that you could try.

Larry

I have already tried this. Does not work for the distance I need,50 feet. The signal degrades to much and not useable. That is why I am looking for a wireless application, adapter. Thanks , anyway. Tim

Hi again, Okay,I am totally familiar with the eos utility and tethering my camera. I do appreciate the responses yet I am looking to live view and control the camera wirelessly as I stated above. I have tried hard wiring with usb extentions yet need to be about 50 feet or more from camera and with that length of usb cable, the signal degrades. I was informed that a wifi card only allows you to transfer your images and you cannot do live view that way. Really want to do this.
Astro imaging is my passion now and simplifying it in this way makes it more enjoyable in the winter. Would be nice also for remote viewing and shooting near a bird feeder. Guess I could get a hold of Canon support and ask them. I was hoping that someone here on the hog has accomplished this already. Thanks again for your input. Tim

Hello to everyone today. I am sure all you canon users may know about the backyard eos app to where you can tether your camera to your desktop/laptop. If not got to backyardeos.binaryrivers.com . This allows you to tether your camera and live view thru your computer and shoot images. You can try this for free for 30 days to see if you like it before purchasing.
Okay, I want to do this wirelessly. What adapter do I need to get to accomplish this? I have a canon T4I . Thanks to all of you ahead of time for any and all replies. Tim p.s. I am looking for anyone that has done this and for info on specific device you have used. Thanks again.

Why beat yourself up over manual settings? Practically every consumer camera made in the last 40 years has a built-in meter and most have a variety of automatic exposure options. The camera manufacturers have spent a great deal of money to make things easy for us, but now you are worrying about overriding the technical advances and making things harder for yourself. Using manual settings does not make you a better photographer!

YES I agree why beat yourself up? you are right. It is right to want to improve ones quality and skill too in photography as it is with anything. For one to not try at least or want to improve their quality or skills dumbfounds me. hmmmmmmmmm ?

There are times when I would like to be able to use the live view feature on my canon t4i yet the time between shots are longer. When shooting a bird in flight it is easier to keep it in frame for me using live view. Yet there is a delay between shots. I have the preview turned off so I do not see the individual shots of each image. So why does it still have the delay? Shooting with the viewfinder and live view off, no delay. Thought that when upgrading from my older nikon coolpix I would get away from the delay when shooting in live view.
