One of the most exciting things in bird photography is when your subject is every bit as intense in checking you out, as you are in placing that little red dot on her forehead.
And the closer she gets, the better it is.
Try the download to see the full intensity of her eyes.

Since there's been a lot of discussion on birds in flight, lately I thought I'd include all the relevant data for these two shots.

Camera; Canon 7D
Lens; Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 'L' IS USM @300MM.
Shutter; 1/2500"
Aperture; f/8
ISO; 400
Hand held.
Shot in RAW.
Converted in DPP.

Wow, what kind of bird is that. Love the sky in the barn shot. And all the leaves. Beautiful.

I"m not sure what type of bird he is. There are a couple of them live down by the lake near home. They have huge feet lol and thankyou :)

Took this photo this evening. Tomorrow we take the big bird back to reality. As always we have enjoyed our stay in the Great State of Hawaii and can't wait to return.

Aloha,

Usually the Titmice coming to the feeder have moved too quickly for decent shots. With the new task of teaching the young to get their own seeds, they've all "posed" a little better. I thought they were cute and enjoyed watching the process through the kitchen window late yesterday and this morning.

These were shot with a Pentax K- 7 and a Pentax 300mm lens on shutter priority from about 15 feet through the kitchen window.

Beautiful shots! :)

I think F22 might be the problem, it's not always a good thing to go the far end of F range, I usually go up to a couple of stop below say around F18.

thankyou, will give it a go :)

I think if you look at the original, directly from the camera, you will find a much larger image that can be printed to 16x20 inches or larger. That is if you have the camera set to take the largest possible images!

Yes, it was and is and now I have the settings on my LR so when I export they are bigger than stamps. :)
Cheers

You shot at f/22. Your lens may not be as sharp at this aperture as a bit more wide open. This by itself may not answer your problem, but it can be a significant factor for some lenses.

Thankyou lightchime, I have since been working on my sweetspot for aperture. Im hoping to improve that :)

Was your, "koalas and friends" post taken with the same camera? Nothing wrong with those.

Yes it was and that was before I started really playing with the settings. I hope to just keep improving and this site is fabulous for working things out

With this one, very well done, I have to wonder if perhaps you are't being overpowered by the number of pilings in the picture. For me personally I would say, well it's entirely to busy and I would look for something a bit more settled. The quality of your work is very good but it's just like a family reunion, Ya got to many cuzins sitting at the table.

lol maybe you are right, thank you for your imput and I will take your words on board with me :)
