Barely or silent...one still makes noise...and it ain’t the Olympus.

used 4/3 would not give it house room The pixel density is great but the low light is JUNK
This is with the em1 original, not the em1ii. I have this printed as a 12x18 on my wall. It’s far from junk.
One of my favorite combos. That and the 75mm. One word of caution though. I’ve broken 2 of the lens hoods on the 12-40.

At a franchise camera store in Sacramento a guy showed me a used omd em lmkll for $899 & a Pro 12-40mm lens for $450. Is it worth the risk? Thanks
If the em1ii is in good shape and the shutter count is semi decent, that's an excellent price. As for the lens, I often see the 12-40 in great shape going for that price...that don't include lens scratches.

There are several great reasons to choose the Panasonic Lumix G85 over the Oly E-M5 II.
First is the Dual IS, yes. Using Panasonic image stabilized lenses with the IBIS in the G85 provides the best facets of both in-lens and in-body stabilization. In-lens works best with longer lenses, while in-body works best for shorter focal lengths. At medium telephoto (35 to 150mm on Micro 4/3), you get the best shake reduction, and those just happen to be the most commonly used tele focal lengths.
My own handling experience with both also showed me a clear difference in ergonomics, configuration menus, price, value, video capabilities, and more.
The reviews linked here are the best evidence.

BOTH use the same Micro 4/3 lens mount. Both make some excellent professional grade lenses, and more are available from several third parties. Here's a list of over 100:

Minor details, but...
RRS camera plates don't support the G85, but they do for the EM5ii. I'm sure there are other manufactures that do, but I've found that having the camera plate is an essential piece of equipment. It not only allows the camera to easily attach to an arca-swiss head, but it also:
- makes for gripping easier by having a slot for your pinky
- offers an alternate mounting spot for a camera strap (I like peak design leash)
- since the plate runs the full length, the camera still sits flat on the surface. The plate also will take the wear instead of the camera, if setting on a rough surface.

WOW!!! thanks Cdouthhitt. Your thoughtful response is like a mini-seminar to me- very helpful new information and a lot to digest. I have a lot to catchup on. Really appreciate it all.
No problem...been shooting with Olympus since 2007. Feel free to PM me for anything 4/3 or m4/3 related.

Seriously...look at mu-43.com for used gear.

Thanks Linda, I appreciate your fast response & comments. I will look inti the Pro line of Olympus lenses. Heard they are great. Good luck in your travels. Know anything about KEH and their used equipment?
KEH is a great company...and their camera and lens ratings are generally better than one would think.
You might be able to find a nice used one on the mu-43.com buy sell section. That's usually where I buy my used gear.
If you're planning on using some of the larger/pro lenses you may want to consider the original EM1. Just make sure it has the latest firmware update on it. In either case EM1 or EM5ii, you'll be shooting in S-AF mode. If you need C-AF, your only real option is the EM1ii or EM1x (which is likely out of your price range).
No matter which one you go with I'm going to suggest the RRS camera plate. Not only will it convert the sole of the camera into an arca-swiss mount, but it also gives your pinky finger a nice place to rest.
I used to own an em1, until I upgraded to the em1ii. 16mpx is nice, but 20mpx (on the em1ii) is a big difference, especially if you like to crop in on your images. The PDAF and CDAF of the em1 and the em1ii make it possible to have reliable AF of the old 4/3 glass (which a lot of that glass is inexpensive, but very high quality–especially the HG and SHG lineup).

In about a 1-2 months, maybe all our snow will be gone.
Looking good, if I don’t say so myself. I’m glad you like it (along with everyone else). It was a pleasure working with you on the design.
If anyone else is looking for a custom watermark, feel free to PM me.
