Welcome to the "HOG".

Thx - I really like it -- but, now it is "hogging" up my time - in a good way though. Very friendly & enjoyable.

Welcome!! I use to live in southern cal. for half my life in Westminster do you know where that is? Sure glad to be out of there!!

Thank You for the welcome. I had to google West. and see that it is closer to the ocean, which I love. I am more inland about 90 miles east of L.A. - here's another hint - it's called the Coachella Valley. Rte. I-10 can be a nightmare to the coast - I think they should build a tunnel :-) .

When I insert the card in the camera either thru the viewfinder or the LCD I have a message "protected card"

Here's some trivia. The default for an SD card is Protected Mode. If that little switch gets removed from the card, you cannot write to it. So the purpose of the switch is to enable writing. It looks like they designed it in fail-safe mode. I still can't understand how they can get so much memory, a switch, and in some cases, a Wi-Fi transmitter in there.

It's like an old riding mower I used to have. It had an ignition switch with a key. One day the switch broke - no grass-cutting that day. When I removed the switch, the mower ran fine. "Run" was the default position. Turning the switch to OFF grounded the ignition. Removing the switch completely opened the circuit and let the mower start.

Here's more lack of my knowledge - I didn't even know the cards had a lock/unlock feature. I tried it both ways in the camera and pc -- zip. I consider the card a very tiny recycle item now, but are u suggesting I try to remove the little slider gizmo ? I guess it can't hurt any. Thx for the info.

Did you try using a SD card reader and then inserting the reader with SD card into the camera?

No -- to be honest, I'll need to look for that equipment & give it a try. I believe a reader came with both camers's --would either work ?? More lack of knowing :-)

Thanks Z - I'm reading lots of good stuff - it's the remember part that's a problem. I haven't been clicking lately but will soon. Hey, I use to live in MA - are you near Portsmouth ? A happy day to you. :-)

Close to Portsmouth - but off 93, not 95

I've found that if I don't click what I've read, then I don't remember either. Lately, however, I've had to invoke the repeat part more often.... oldtimer's disease :)

And a happy day back atcha!

The sun is just rising here now - to be cooler than normal. I use a "note" program to help me remember stuff. I always get 93 and 95 confused - but in Portsmouth did you ever go to a restaurant called the "Blue Strawberry" -- it was in the basement of a converted townhouse. I don't know if it still exists or perhaps changed names -- it was quite unique for its time. How is the weather there ? I have a friend in Newfield -- near that ?

you know that even with all our expertise,if there is a way to mess up, we'll stumble across it.

I've come to the brilliant conclusion I caused the problem myself. From reading posts here I did two things wrong. One, I used the card in two different camera's, different makes - Fuji & Canon - not a good idea. Second, I was in the habit of erasing the card in my laptop - not a good idea. They recommend to re-format in the camera to erase. So, I will have one card for each camera in the future. Thanks for all the information.

No -- I had gotten them saved beffore this happened so very lucky in that regard. I'll proceed with the one I have plus bought a few others on "sale". I'm not sure how old the card was, it served me well - not life & death. Thx.

Ziggy -- thx for the suggestion. The manual that came with the camera is the "basic" - I did find the extended version & looked at the format media card section. When I insert the card in the camera either thru the viewfinder or the LCD I have a message "protected card" - I moved the lock slider on the card to both positions - same message. At this point I'll just assume that the card has expired. And, I always have erased the card while still in the pc after saving my pic's - never had a problem before. It just has bugged me that it stopped working without a warning of some sort. I suppose it is possible I caused the problem myself -- it's happened with other things, haha.

Hi - I have an 8 gig SDHC card that is no longer recognized in my two camer's (different makers) and also not in my laptop reader. I erase the chip each time after the pic's are on the pc. Any idea's ? Also, is it OK to leave the card in the camera when not in use ? Thanks.

Hi -- I have the Canon PowerShot A1200 too, bought it since it had the viewfinder. My Fuji FinePix S1800 also has one. I find it difficult holding the camera still using the screen and also seeing what is on the screen in daylight. I wish all camera's gave you a choice. Maybe the viewfinder will make a comeback.
