Looks just as cold as where I am. Nice shots, thanks for sharing.

The lighting on No1 is very nice indeed, and suits the subject well. I would like to see a white "under the chin" reflector used for Nos 3 & 4 to ease the deep shadows either side of the nose. If the model was a male then maybe the lighting would be acceptable. For No5 I would like to see more fill from camera right and again, an "under the chin" reflector. No6 is great, but the hand is a little over stated, perhaps due to a short focal length lens? If you had moved the camera viewpoint to the right slightly it may have helped. Overall, very good work that shows a considered approach. Bravo!

You are in hiding so we can't suggest specific bargains..

I think "Crop Factor" is something some marketing guy came up to make lenses on DX cameras look like they are more than they are. In film days I had cameras with 8mm (Minox)- 35mm (Minolta)- 2 1/4 square (Yashica) - 4X5 (Speed Graphic) I knew what the field of view was on the differant size cameras and did not have to do some kind of math to campare it to another format. I knew that a 100 mm lens was a tele on my 35mm and a wide angle on my 4X5. I would suggest the one should learn what the lenses they have will do on the cameras they have and forget "Crop Factor" Just my not so humble opinon. - Dave

My camera history is Kodak instamatic 25, Praktica Super TL, Nikkormat FTn, Nikon F, Canon EOS10d and now 60D

And I bet the Kodak instamatic 25, Praktica Super TL, Nikkormat FTn & Nikon F will all still be working in another 50 years time, but none of the digital cameras will. A DSLR is an electrical appliance that produces digital images, not a camera.

Sorry, I disagree. I take it to mean "no, I am happy with what I posted - leave it alone!"

Here is a link to Roger Cicala's recent blog about the lens bargains available now - many people just starting out ask "what should I buy, the xyz version or the zyx version?" Here's some useful advice.

Murm, not all genres demand tecnical excellence.
Should technical excellence always outway ecellent composition. Or should it be the opposite. In some genres yes, in others no.
There have been tecnically poor images that have won Pulitzer prizes.

I would like to second what SharpShooter said above: The competition is not restricted to "professionals" and I would not like to see any rule or judging guideline that placed an emphasis on technical quality before artistic merit. The "judges" are the members, not a panel of certified adjudicators affiliated to some association or other. Other than that, I agree with Steve's proposals.

I have a Gossen Lunasix that is over 30 years old. Works correctly. It was built for Mercury batteries but I was able to adjust it to use current batteries. I have a CDS Finder for my Mamiya 645 that works well also. The Mamiya is a late 70's model. A PDS finder for the Mamiya works well also.

Lucky you....

Page 2 of the Zeiss Newsletter No 12 is interesting. While it discusses the Zeiss Softar attachment filter, it makes interesting comments about the desirability if lens sharpness in certain situations:

He might only have bought the brand - but he's "going retail" in a big way. In 5 mins his Oxford Street and Birmingham stores open, followed this coming week end by Aberdeen, Manchester, High Wycombe and St Albans. And rising to around 40 to cover the country by the end of the year, at the rate, so I read, of one a week.

It is worth noting that selenium cells do not last forever, and most of the Weston Master meters that I have seen in the last year or so have been impossible to calibrate as the cells have been dying. The same applies to CDS cells, which is why there are so many Nikon F Photomic viewfinders and Gossen Sixtar meters in non-working condition. A new meter will last for years, an old one has already done so.

All Canon L lenses are made in Japan. What you are being offered may be a "grey import" from a Taiwanese source.
