These were taken a couple of months ago at Sebring Raceway as he was watching the cars go by on the first and in our concession trailer on the 2nd. We all love our own but wanted to get an unbiased review from others.

Well since no one has added any of theirs yet I would add another.

Most of these so-called composition rules were set up by people that struggled with art, but loved mathemitics. All they really are is places to start at best. Course, I hate rules because everyone seems to have an exception. Kinda like American's, we believe in law and order and then violate speed limits!

The only real rule you need to worry about in composition is, "does the inclusion of any element add to the image impact"! If it doesn't get rid of it! Even that socalled "Rule of Thirds" doesn't always make the best image.

So with that in mind, what does the flower in the background bring to the image?

I've always thought of composition as this: if it don't add to the image, or takes away from the subject, get rid of it!

By the way, I like what you did in Lightroom.
Most of these so-called composition rules were set... (show quote)

I totally agree with you. Most of us are too lazy to ask those really great questions. We want to shoot masterpieces without effort or thought. Sometimes moving just a couple of inches one direction or another can make all the difference.

Really enjoy SCCA events, anything from multi-million dollar rigs to Mom and Pop staying in a tent. Good people. They love their racing.

Ok, now I know you need to photo shop out the hairy arm. Ha!

Nice composition and use of thirds. I would photo shop out the loose hairs on the pillow, they distract but everything else is good. And I'm not a cat person.

Original for me also. I also find two's the hardest to make interesting. 3,5 objects work better.

I really appreciate the effort. The hardest thing to do is take a so-so subject and see it in a way that makes other see the same thing you saw. I'll bet you saw something there but just didn't quite translate it in the picture. Was it the light, the detail, the contrast? I always look at the common and try to find the uncommon about it. Thanks for sharing.

Really fine shots but the 3rd one is my favorite. Strong, bold, with perspective. Great use of thirds!

As a new member I would like to start a gallery where any member can add photos that covey movement and action. It does not have to be limited to motorsports but that is my emphasis. If any learns something from this thread and can apply it to there favorite subjects please do so. With each entry please give as much information about settings so others can learn how to capture this type of image. I am starting this with a couple of entries that I really like. Feel free to comment, critique, but hopefully add your own shots and grow your skills.

Welcome aboard.......enjoy the new camera. Would you happen to know what class #47 runs in?........Nice car.

Not sure. That shot was taken 2/10/12 and I think that was a PBOC club event. I need to document better.

I guess I didn't really introduce myself. My name is Jim Erickson and I'm about to turn 62. Gonna grab my Social Security soon and take more pictures. I have been shooting with a Nikon D-70S that has about had it. The sensor got dirty and I tried to clean it. Made it worse. Looking to purchase either a Nikon D7000 or the new Nikon D800.

Love the concept. It appears that the camera focused on the back right side of the slide. This would have been really cool if you had panned with him sliding and using a slower shutter.
