I've had mine for a year now with no issues, knock on wood. I go out every weekend on long hikes with the camera. It's tumbled down steep banks with me, bounced off the ground, and weathered sudden downpours. Still works like a charm and I have no regrets purchasing it. I'll shoot with it until the shutter gives out and I'll probably get it repaired when it does.

Sounds like you have a keeper. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Hi Mike, I won a raffle (first to purchase) at Calumet here in SF when the 5DIII first came out. I still had to pay, but got one of the first 5DIII's in San Francisco. I use it along side my 7D, over 80,000 clicks on each and never any problems.

Chris

Thanks for the info, Chris.

On Adorama's website there were 80 reviews and 4 were negative. Of the 4, two of them looked legit. The other two, in my opinion, were due to user error.

I have not had any issues with my 5D MK III in the years that I have had it.
I have always found Canon's tech support to be top notch when I contacted them in the past. When dealing with customer service/tech support persons, I try to be extremely nice to them (even if I am somewhat angry/upset with them). A pleasant attitude usually is contagious and they are very willing to help.

Thank you for your input. Agree 200 percent. Pleasant attitude is contagious. When it comes to complaints, it's important to remember that I am reading only one side of the story. Maybe their situation is accurate. But maybe not.

I haven't dealt with Canon USA repairs. But I have had positive experiences with customer service at Adorama and at B&H.

Treating everyone respectfully has worked for me.

I've owned mine since they first came out. B&H's second shipment. No problems at all. I own the 5dmkii as a backup.

Thank you for taking time to respond. For the most part, I am reading that the 5D III is an amazing camera.

I own both the Canon 7D and 5DMKIII (and a Canon SX50 for that matter) - the Canon 7D is my action and outdoor camera, but the 5DMKIII is reserved for the "really good" occasions. Not only does it take beautiful photographs, but the video capability is world class (especially if outfitted with an L series lens).

Thank you. Overall, I've read many positive responses like yours. But the handful of negative situations made me pause. And with Photokina approaching, will probably wait a few more days.

I am considering making Canon 5D III the big brother to my 7D. But I'm concerned about complaints (found among Adorama's buyer reviews) about 5D III freezing up, failing to power on, and alleged callous treatment by Canon USA repair center.

Anyone here on UHH having troubles with the 5D III? Thank you for any advice.

"Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails."

This quote attributed to Mark Twain came to mind as I read the following advice about stepping outside my comfort zone with my newbie photo skills:

I've been rereading his first book "The Camera" lately, and found that almost everything applies to digital photography as well. If you have a copy, open it up and read it. If you don't, buy a copy, or check one out of your local library(they still have those, don't they?). It has made me look at the way I use my DSLR, and slowed me down. He truly was a visionary and his lessons are timeless.

Thanks for the recommendation. Another interesting book about Adams is his autobiography, which includes several of his photos. I'll look for "The Camera."

Maybe you are aware of this list of resources on Ansel Adams. If not, enjoy.

It seems like big news when someone switches camera brands or formats. Trey Ratcliff and Scott Kelby are two names that come to mind. Here's an article by a guy who swapped his Fuji X-T1 for a Nikon Df. This just goes to show that "One size fits all" is nonsense.

Notice that cool wrist strap he has on the Df.

That wrist strap resembles a "lug wrist strap" shown on the web site of lancecamerastraps.com.
