One thing about misinformation: it can only be believed by those lazy enough not to verify it. I can't tell you many times some of my fb friends have posted something that I was easily able to debunk by googling the facts.

I'm sure that before commercial floss was invented, all there was was bio-degradable floss, i.e., strips of various types of naturally grown fibers from trees, grasses, etc.

I get a kick out of hearing stories about creepy creatures that people have reported seeing. Why do they always have red, glowing eyes? It's not like flashbulb "redeye." The glow comes from within. I'm sure that scientists would love to examine one of these creatures and find out why their eyes are glowing.

And another thing - Why do UFOs have so many lights? Reports often say these ships had lights all over them, sometimes white and sometimes different colors. On earth, planes and boats use minimal lighting, so why do alien spacecraft need so many lights?

In my humble opinion, people are too quick to believe nonsense, but they are skeptical of scientifically proven facts. If another intelligent species ever evolves on earth after we're gone, I hope they are more intelligent.

When I was a sophomore in high school, there was an exciting young boxer named Cassius Clay. Fortunately, his early fights would be shown on the Wide World of Sports. I can remember getting home from J.V. baseball games just in time to see the fights.

In the 50’s, driving from outside Cincinnati to grandma’s up in rural NE Ohio we passed a lot of the Burma Shave signs along with barns painted “Mail Pouch Tobacco” and “See Rock City.” It was sure a different world then.

Barn advertising was another victim of Lady Bird's beatification bill. How unfortunate. Now, as I drive through the winding interstate in Kentucky, they get around the bill by building hugh billboards the proscribed distance away from the road.

Be sure to have your Kleenex nearby!

It reminds me of the tear-jerkers my Mom hauled me to see at the movies when I was a young kid. I had to sit there and screw my face around so my Mom wouldn't think it had gotten to me.

I loved the movie. I've seen it several times. My wife saw it and fell in love with it also.

We need more good movies like this one.

Janet and I watched this movie last night. From the moment we started watching we couldn't turn it off. Riveting and at times heart-breaking. If you love a good story told well, you'll enjoy this movie, especially since it's told from a dogs eye view with Kevin Costner being the voice of the dog. The dog used in the movie, too, a golden retriever, deserves some kind of Canine Oscar. Race car aficionados will enjoy the race car scenes.

There are lots of people on YouTube showing us how to set up a computer as a home theater. You give it lots of memory and then load hundreds of movies onto it. Why? How many times would I want to watch the same movie? If I already have it on DVD, why would I want to put it onto a computer? This seems more like something to do than something anyone needs.

It's different with music. I have lots of songs on my computer, iPods, phones, etc., but movies?

There is an App called Plex that allows for the streaming and organization of movies. Combine this with an actual server and you have a catalog of movie at your disposal.

The worst thing about Lady Bird's law that went into effect against roadside signage was the disappearance of the Burma Shave signs. Before the days of the interstates, our family would drive from Michigan to Kansas on the old highways to visit my Mom's parents. Along the way we were entertained by the Burma Shave signs. Even as a third grader I could appreciate their humor. Right up there with Ogden Nash!!

I remember those days, although a little after that since I'm younger. I remember listening to Floyd Patterson championship fights on the radio and remember when Ingemar Johannson beat him and Patterson creamed him in the rematch. Other names that come to mind are Archie Moore and the original Sugar Ray Robinson.

In thinking about this thread another thing came to mind: family get togethers at my Italian grandparents. Seven of their children lived in the same area so monthly Sunday dinners as well as Thanksgiving and Christmas are a great memory. My aunts and uncles had great memories growing up poor in the hills of W.VA. There was always plenty of laughter. My Grandmother made the best pasta sauce that I've ever tasted. Mild yet flavorful. And I could never get enough rolls....hot out of the oven. Wonderful days with wonderful people.

I think it was Jesus who said "I shall be your revenge"

You're mixing up Jesus with Paul. It's Romans 12:19:

"Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord." (NIV

I removed the shifter from the column and moved it to the floor after I had to crawl under the car on a cold wet day to un-jam the linkage. Even with a bench seat ( I do like these) it made shifting easier.
I miss small local companies. I miss the simple automobile engines before the computer age. I miss scanning newspapers and mail inserts for paper coupons. I miss having a grocery budget that was realistic, not a week's wages. I miss quiet restaurants where everyone wore decent clothes and removed their hats when they sat. I miss manners, courtesy and consideration.
