Sometimes, you don't want to hang around while Windows updates. You just want to close your laptop and get going. You can shut it down without doing the update.

Why would you wait around for your computer to shut down? It will shut down automatically when your updates are downloaded on your computer. The next time you turn on your computer, it will install your updates.

I agree with you completely here. But you also have to look at the human spirit which always wants to compete and push themselves to be better, faster... whatever, have more than his neighbor... greed, etc.... Even though what wins out is immoral to the core, guess which side will win every time... the side with the money. Its the same thing with everything else done in the world. From the over paid execs and athletes, to the billions wasted on fancy buildings just to impress the Jones's, to the millions on a mansion for a few and those that freeze and starve to death under a bridge, to the every thing that is so out of balance in the world today. It all comes down to greed and the greedy will always win as long as Satan is in charge on th earth.

Gee, bud.....testy much?

The post I was responded to pretty much treated athletes as a stereotype and condemned all apparently with the belief that you knew and understood all human nature, the backrounds of allathletes, and their motivations. I merely pointed out that perhaps, just perhaps, they want to earn a living and have a family like most Americans.

Oddly, you continue to take exception and appear to disagree as you see yourself as the arbiter of all things athletic. Of course, you're wrong in your all-inclusive stereotype which you exhibited in both the original post and this one, AND you double down by anecdotally using the case of three (count them, three!) athletes to condemn them all.

THAT'S WTF I'm talking about......how about you?

lols, ok, i agree when i say all or imply all, i am wrong. But no, i am not the arbiter of all things athletic, i never said that, it was your interpretation. Anyway, i guess its ok to disagree, but why do we put athletes on a pedastool for things that they do that are so ridiculous. I think a brain surgeon should be put on a pedastool.

Yeah...,..damn them for wanting to have a career, make some money, have a family, etc. WTF do they think they are, anyway? Americans or something!

Are you talking about the moron swimmer who was a guest in another country and made an ass out of himself and didn't represent his country in a favorable way? So he wants to have a career, make some money, and have a family???? What did he do to market himself for some company to want to hire him? And how about the 2 boxers who raped a couple of women? Yea, they are marketable to. WTF are you talking about?

Yes. Absolutely.

They show up for all of the other events that are NOT Olympic.

What makes you so cynical?

I don't think i am being cynical when all of this money is being spent on the privileged and we have people starving all over the world and people struggling to get a college education so they could live comfortable without a huge debt. Why not help them? Look at all the money spent to build all of these facilities just for 2 weeks of activities and then when the Olympics are over they are not used anymore. How stupid is that? I think the money could be spent more wisely. So you can jump higher than anybody else you can run faster than anybody else you can play volleyball better than anybody else so you can swim faster than anybody else so you can do some fancy dives better than any body else -- who the hell cares???? How does that help with a job interview? Give me a break?

Of course they would and the proof is in all the meets they go to in between the four years of the Olympics. Each year they have a big event and several others throughout the year for many of the sports and not only do most not get televised but they never make the news; the main stream media of course, which is what most hold as golden and don't even know about the other real, honest, sources out there.

Hey, thanks whitewolfowner, i didn't know that. Thanks for educating me. I learned something new today. Thanks again.

Everything I've read would disagree with your statement.

The athlete's point of view, it's ALL about pride of accomplishment.

Do you think any of the athletes would show up if it was not televised?

I don't know about the "pampered pooches" The time spent and the level of training to get to the highest level of competition has to be very hard and you have to have a high degree of motivation to overcome so many obstacles. Having said that, it should be taxable income.

The time spent and the level of training to get to the highest level of competition has to be very hard to get a College education to compete at the highest level of Business is a lot more important than to spend 4 years of training to learn how to swim or dive off a diving board or run 400 meters or play Volley ball or Basketball.

What bills do you or any of us pay for the US Olympic athletes? Unlike most if not all the other countries, the USA does not financially support our Olympic Committee or the athletes on the team. The exception to that is the members of the Para Olympic team who are members of the military. Unless you donate money to the US Olympic Committee, it and the athletes on the team don't cost you or anybody else a cent.

Well, who does then?

Mike, I have to take the fifth when it comes to Rhode. My favorite event to watch during the Olympics is Netflix but I'd be surprised if the networks even covered the skeet shoot. However, it brings up another pet peeve of mine and that is athletes going back for 5-6 games. They should be allowed to attend one game and they're done. Four years later bring in new faces. I also think that they should have built permanent sites years ago instead of going around the globe and spending umpteen millions constructing facilities that are left to rot as soon as the games leave.

I agree, one game and then go out and get a job, a real job. I also agree on one permament site, what a waste of money when people are starving all around the world.

Yeah, so much for that great swimming team we will have in the future. The drunken idiots can't even behave themselves in another country when they are ambassadors for us. They think they are still on their college campuses where they are protected to the core and can do whatever they please. The day, colleges start demanding responsible behavior from their athletes is the day this immature behavior may stop. The way they act on and off of campuses is is beyond criminal and the think they can do it anywhere. I'm glad the Brazilian police caught them at their stunt of destruction. Now watch the US government protect them; when they should face the law where they committed their crimes and pay the dues. No wonder Phelps wants to retire and not come back. He has a child and wants to be a father, not end up in jail with these immature spoiled brats.
Yeah, so much for that great swimming team we will... (show quote)

Don't forget Phelps is not Mr. Clean, he was caught a few years ago doing weed
