I don't believe they were taken at same time.

I think maybe they were taken at the same time the shadows are identical. And yes to OPer to experiment and learn some of the different parameters of a great little camera. Take multiple shots of the same subject w/ different settings. I do it all the time.

How can you tell if a used Nikon DSLR is a USA origination (thereby repairable by Nikon USA), or a Gray Market unit which Nikon USA will NOT repair?

If new you can tell when you go to register it, but if its used, how will you know its status?

For Nikon Lenses http://www.photosynthesis.co.nz/nikon/serialno.html
For Cameras: Nikon has long used the first digit of the serial number to indicate region for many of their products:
1 Not used
2 Japan
3 USA
4 Europe (excluding UK)
5 Canada
6 Australia/New Zealand
7 Asia (excluding Japan)
8 United Kingdom
9 Not used

Not too bad, actually. I think I would increase the ISO to 800-1600, depending on the camera. You'll have less atmospheric distortion that way. And please, resist the temptation to pp the &$@%^# out of it! Some slight sharpening, maybe a little contrast enhancement, is about all that is necessary. It'll be clearer when the moon is higher.....but of course, you can't get a thin crescent that way... All in all, not a bad shot as is. I'd just increase the ISO as stated above, so your exposure can be shorter.

DL please join the PP fest I'm learning so much that way.
I will pay more attention to the ISO as you say.

Craig, Nice shots. Since you allowed Erv to take a shot at it, I also gave it a try. I opened PS-CS5 and bridge. I opened in ACR and then imported into CS5. I sharpened and then noise reduction, followed by cropping. I hope you do not mind, I can look at the other one if you want me to. Bruce, your thoughts as well. Gary

Thank you Gary, you & Erv have an edge in PP that I don't have yet. I'm a little timid when it comes to pushing it in PP. Any of my post are always fair game for viewer participation. I'm here to learn all I can.

Agree with Linda. Download a must to see the great detail. Looks like a katydid (?).

Thank you Donna, not sure what it is, some type of hopper. It's only 1/2" in length.

Thank you Erv it looks a whole lot better after you played with it.
I was very timid in sharpening and didn't know about going B&W.

Very nice Craig. Did you do any work on them? And you can crop your moon shot pretty close. That will show more of the details. Also try ant turn it into a black and white shot and see if that helps. Would you mind if I played with it?
Erv

Oh! Can yo used some clear sky's my way? :):)
