Google LensAlign and look up their distance chart for the lens you are using and it gives a minimum and a max distance along with questions as to if it's a FF or Nikon or Canon crop along with info on aperture. It also gives the DOF for both side of focus. Some people are afraid to try this but if you can't get good results you can always set it back to the starting point. Once you do this and see how easy it is you may wonder why you didn't do this sooner. Have fun.

RRS thank you, I did and it gave me the information i need to do my own test more accurately.
I am using a yardstick and a shipping box. Works pretty good. I know my focus is off.
Now I have to adjust the camera. Trial and error in the 'AF fine tune'.

Well, 1st - you want to get away from the minimum focus distance - at least a little - even if you are taking most of your shots at this distance - at least so you have room to "adjust". At this distance all adjustments will be very critical ....the further you move away the less critical .

Thank you imagemeister, I'm setting up at 65 ft 400mm right now, so I'LL see how that works.

You have not done a focus calibration with your camera body .....

HOW do we calibrate a big long lens like this. I tried to do it at 9ft the minimum distance, with not so good results. I used a numbered focus card. Help

I used Canon 100-400 for third one. #1 and 2 taken with new lens. Canon 24mm 1.4. Great landscape lens but also works well for closeups. Please try download.

Beautiful work Donna. You put out so much great work it's hard to pick any single one to praise.

Super shots, Craig. The second one looks like a straw hat. Glad you folks are getting some much needed rain.

Hi Donna always good to hear from you. And we desperately need another 15-20 inches. Love your White Rose it is so subtle and calming.

Yes, my thoughts are that it is pretty strange for someone to join a website and then wait 2 weeks before their first post.
To me it seems that if you had something to say you would post right away.
And if you didn't have something to say, then you wouldn't join.
I suspect another marketing plant trying to propogate comment and traffic.

EDIT:
And I answer within 11 minutes, and yet the "new user" who wanted to know the answer to their question, is gone.

I think you may be expecting others to have your reasons for joining the Forum. I did not post anything for 4 months after joining. And I learned a lot before embarrassing myself. Which I too have done several times as you just have. I don't see you online right now to respond to my post.
