You would almost think Sony, Nikon etc. would encourage you to use a hood and sell it for a reasonable price.
I remember paying $5 for a lens cap for a Nikon F 50mm lens around 1974 and really feeling ripped off!
Glossy Ibis. When I became familiar with this bird several years ago I was told it was a Shiny Ibis. I still have to stop amd think which one it is.
Be careful renting. It is awfully easy to get psyched up and then you shell out several thousand to buy!

I have had every edition since 8 with good results. I would give their tech support a call. You will likely talk with a real English speaking Canadian!

The selection of lenses may not be as great as Nikon or Canon but I suspect Sony's technology will come eventually to dominate the market. Get it if you can afford it.
