Check your flash setting to see if you have the red eye reduction mode selected. There will be a delay in the flash firing with it on. However with a higher flash speed I think that you should still be able to get a sharp image even with the red eye reduction turned on.

The D700 will not shoot video. There is a video output connector but that is just for viewing the photos.

I could not find a Canon 55-250mm macro lens but I may have missed it. I think that you have a zoom telephoto lens.
Check here http://www.dpreview.com/products/compare/lenses
I only see a few lens with macro in their description. These are true macro lens that will give you 1:1.

If someone sold you this as true macro lens they may have lied to you.

There are some lens that use the term macro but they are just close focusing lens and are usually about 1:3.

If the lens is an older F-mount it should attach OK but it will probably only work in manual. To be safe go to Nikon Customer Support and ask them about a specific lens and camera. Another forum to join and post this question is NikonCafe.

Start as Jaime suggested and make a test photo. Look it and the histogram, then adjust as needed. After some practice you should be able to starting getting it right on the first shot.

I made a shutter release for a Nikon 1 V1, which is not a point and shoot but it is similar in design. It has an IR shutter release but I needed more distance. I used a Kaiser Bulb Shutter Release (from B&H) and made a bracket for it. Photo # 39 in my gallery @

It has new glass and is better for any Canon or other brand of lens that it will work with. Fellow photographers and I have used it on several different lens including the Canon 70-200mm lens.

The new 2X III is much better. I have used both. If I am making photos of a subject that is not moving I use will use manual focus in live view and a Hoodman. You can really obtain sharp the focus with this technique.

Thanks everyone. I have close up "lenses" that I attach to my regular lenes for close up shots, so guess I need a teleconverter. A day is wasted if you don't learn something new, and on this forum, I have learned enough to coast through several years of not learning anything new each day. :-)

The close up lens that attach to your lens like a filter reduce the depth of field and unless they are the really good ones like Nikon and Canon make they will also degrade the image. Extension tubes have no glass and I think they are a better option for close up photography.

I love this. For a few years I used both Canon and Nikon. My analysist said that I had bipolar camera ambivalent disorder. I would shoot with Canon or Nikon depending on who I was when I woke up in the morning. After threapy I have moved to the dark side and now just shoot Nikon.

Try both systems and something that means a lot to me is how the camera feels in your hands. Learn the cameras and close your eyes then see if you can get to the controls without looking. For sports or bird photography you need to master the camera.

Both systems are great. It is the photographer that makes a great photo not the system.
