Cloudy skies today with some fog and a streak of sunshine now and then. The Eagle was about 150-200 feet in distance and was shot at 600mm.

Very nice work Regis. Love it.

While on the river recently, I spied this old growth cypress covered with air plants. Downloading two images, the original and a paper sketch version. Please try the downloads.

Very nice on the 'Paper sketch version'

From yesterday around the nest site - the female with fish the male just brought to her. Canon 60D, Sigma 100-300 f4 W/1.4X Tamron SP. Lighting was marginal (low) but with a good soft quality ....

Great shot Imagemeister and thanks for the shooting info.
It looks to me, she's not going to give it up anytime soon.

Thank you Craig and Matthew for commenting. Matthew, I'm gonna give it another shot tonight if I can get home in time, before the moon comes up. It was way too cold/windy here last night so I was only able to use the settings I got this one with. Gonna preset the settings before I go outside tonight to "buy" a little more time outside. Not suppose to be as windy tonight...cold is no problem, but, dang, that wind...!
At least you're not in that -20* and wind Oknoder has in N Dakota.
PS: And I complain about +45* and calm.

I bought a Speedlight SB-700 from Nikon's refurbished page.

http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Products/Product/Refurbished-Flashes/SB-700-AF-Speedlight-Refurbished.html

$279.96 + s&h.

It's perfect. Not a scratch, flaw or apparent issue.

You'll be happy as a clam, the only thing you'll need is the 6"x8" Softbox others have recommended.
I hardly ever take mine off the speedlight for Family gatherings to Macro.

I own both a Nikon D5000 and a D7000. Indoors I use both a 35mm f/1.8 and a 50mm f/1.8. I do mostly outdoor photography. Indoors I only want to photograph family and friends, which I do only 4-5 times per year. I am not interested in studio portraiture, but I am tired of the harsh shadows and red eyes when using the built-in flash... even with a diffuser.
I would like an on-camera flash with both tilt and swivel for bouncing the light off walls and ceiling. The Nikon SB910 is more than I want to pay ($560). The Nikon SB 700 at $340 is about as high as I want to go. Do you have any other suggestions or advice?

I had the Yongnuo YN-560 III and was not happy with the same effects as you are getting and spent the extra money and got the Nikon SB-700 and have not looked back since. It has given me just what I am looking for in my Flash photos. I use it for Family and Friends photos 4-5 times a year (50mm 1.8G) and when I shoot my products I sell on eBay.

mrova, yes I am confident that you have captured Lovejoy.
The tail is very hard to see, I think because it is streaming away from us right now. It's at its closest approach to Earth and heading towards the Sun so I assume the tail is away from us.
Here is what I was able to get with my 8 inch telescope.
Really hard to focus and had to wing it because its just a fuzzy green ball right now.
ISO 8000
20 second exposure
f/10 fixed
Color balance on the third shot shows the green quite well.

Jim this is a really nice series. According to your back ground stars you are spot-on with your focus.
I know it has a green cast but why is it green and not the standard white???
Can't wait to get some clear skies.

Craig, after seeing your recent moon shot I found this post with the examples of the 150-600mm ability to focus and capture images in low light. I have been thinking about this lens for a while, but at 6.3 was concerned about it being able to function in low light. Your post really helps me get a better feel for what it is capable of doing. Thanks again for the post.

You're welcome Walt, I also did a Venus shot with the 2x TC and the autofocus just snapped right to it.

I shot this young man at an Indian Pow Wow. As I walked by the look he gave me grabbed my attention and using the Graham technique, of always being ready, I managed to capture this shot. Critiques welcomed.

Spot on B&W, I love the back light halo effect that really sets off the subject.

Craig, another great shot, but I think the first one was sharper with half the magnification. Interesting.
You're right Walt and that's my fault for not taking the time to focus to the finest it can go.
I kept waiting and waiting for the clouds to clear all the way and got too anxious.
You can see a little cloud in the very bottom of the shot.

Hello!

I have been a subscriber to the newsletter here for a while now, but this is my first photo post. I don't have an avenue for critiques of my work as of yet (other than non-photographer friends) so please let me know what you guys think(And if I've posted correctly!)

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve there is a forum "Photo Analysis" where all the critics hang out, you may want to try it. Thanks for posting your first shot. And welcome neighbor. Santa Maria, CA. Are you interested in astronomy???
