I have been an Amazon Prime member for several years. I started doing it when I was still teaching and would buy books and liked the free shipping. Each year I know I save more in shipping than I do for the membership. And I do watch Amazon movies.
Given that, I only buy equipment from reliable dealers or from Amazon directly. I purchased my last Nikon lens, new though Amazon. I do use KEH for refurbished stuff though. That I think is safer. But it all depends on the best deal. eBay is fine, I just don't like going through the bidding.

It is interesting how we all can have different experiences.
I have tried LR on Windows 8 and loved it. I have always been a Mac guy but lately getting real tired of their upgrade problems. I have an IMac that I have LR on. I also have it on my Macbook Air, which Apple allows one to do, have multiple Apple computers. But when I tried to install the Win version using my activation code. I could not. Other wise I would probably buy and add LR to my PC. I bought the PC, laptop as a backup for my photos, hard drive is much larger, processor speed seems excellent. LR just seemed to run faster on the Windows machine.
But to answer your question, basically the same layout for Mac and PC versions.

I read many of the posts on this forum but seldom have made any posts myself.
Some background on me; recently retired (fixed income, haha) and as a younger person in college and grad school I shot a lot of film and slides. Still have my AE1-Program with a 50 mm macro and 55mm 1.4 lens. I want to start trying it out again but with the cost of developing, I just can't shoot away.
I joined the digital movement with some points and shoots about 10 years ago. Then moved to a Canon EOS, 6.2 mp which I don't own anymore. I wanted to do 'street' shooting but everyone little camera I looked at does not have an optical viewer. Bought an Olympus SP810uz. Okay nothing spectacular, 14 megapix.
I also have a Lumina, two years old, nice camera, easy to shoot etc. But so often I can't see the LCD screen due to sunlight. So still trying to find something I can put in my pocket when I go on hikes.
I did purchase a NIKON 3100 about 2 years ago and that came with the usual kit lenses. 18-55mm and 55-200mm. Couple of months ago found a Nikon refurbished 55-300mm which is much better than the 200mm. Then a couple of weeks ago I bought a 35mm prime 1.8 Nikon. I have not done enough shooting with this lens.
So I think I am pretty well set up for all my DSLR needs. I do mainly landscapes, wildlife, some city stuff. I just feel weird walking around downtown carrying all the DSLR stuff when I want to shoot people, in groups, buildings. So back to the point and shoot question. I can't afford the expensive Rangefinders though I wish I could. But I would probably die before I payed it off. :)
Oh, the photos I take I want to be able to make 8 ½ by 11 enlargements, at least.
So any smaller less intrusive cameras I can use without getting arrested by the police? Again I prefer an optical viewer or at least something that has a good screen visible in sunlight.
Now you know why I don't post more often. Winded and wordy for an old guy.

Actually I have had no problems with purchasing Adobe products for students/teachers. They just wanted verification of an email address ending with .edu
All of their programs carry no stipulation what you teach. I teach science as a retiree. If you don't have an .edu address you could register at your nearest community college and get one.

Had the same dilemma. Nikon or Canon. My old DSLR was an early, early Canon.
I still have a Canon AE Program. But all my life, I am 72, I wanted a Nikon.
I tried them both out, T3 and 3200 and went with the Nikon. I love it.

I teach online biology classes for a college. We started using a software program for remote lab access that only ran under Windows. I owned an IMac and IPad. I could have installed a Windows partition on my Mac but I would still need to purchase two new programs. So, I bought a Lenovo laptop with Wndows 7 which works great, but of course not as well as my Mac. I downloaded a beta verizon of Win 8 on the laptop and after a week removed it and reinstalled 7. I will stick with the Apple products and in fact bought a MacBook Air. I use Photoshop, and Picassa. Don't really like IPhoto that much though.
I am really just getting into serious photography, so am I missing something by not using a PC? BTW, rumors are that WIn 8.1 will be much better.

Just joined and I could use suggestions. I have been an amateur photog since I was in college, which was a long tine ago, like theb60's
I was really into film then, and in fact sort of got back into it recently. I picked up a Canon AE 1 program and some really nice lenses.
I bought a Canon EOS rebel digital, 6 mp, one of the earlier DRSLs. Lenses are ok about 7 years ago. Most of my photography lately though has been with various P&S cameras. They are just so convenient. Now I am retired and have time to start my old hobby again. I love nature pix, even though I think I would love to learn more about shooting pictures of people, especially b&w photojournalism type of stuff.
Ok. What do I buy as my new camera? I am leaning toward Nikon d3200. That is my budget. What lenses should I be thinking og getting?
Thanks
