The C-130 has been around a long time, is still in production, is a military workhorse and Lockeed cash cow. I've never figured out why it works so well for the military and has never found wide spread use in the commercial market. What is "wrong" with it for commercial use?

The pilot was a female; last name Williams

Thanks

Here in Louisville we are starting the Kentucky Derby party.
Saturday afternoon is an airshow. Sat. night the largest fireworks display in North America.

I hope to get some decent shots. I will have a 16th Floor balcony to shoot from.

I was downtown today and someone ask me what I was doing this weekend.

I said I was going to go to the big party on the river.

That is downtown Louisville.

I told them I was going to shoot some people on the street and there was going to be a lot of fireworks.

Homeland Security just left after tearing up/searching my house.

As long as we are talking about pocket cameras, I lost mine awhile back, what is the opinion of UHH members on a good one in the under $100 range?

Panasonic Lumix DMC-SZ3 is $99.-- at B+ H I don't have one but the specs look good.

Ok, but not so fast!
Mostly yes, turn it off. But there are lenses, such as the more advanced Canons, which are "tripod sensing", and know when they are on a tripod(they are a #2 on Dsmeltz list), and not necessary to turn IS off. They do in fact then start to mitigate smaller vibrations such a mirror slap, vibrations in the tripod, and irregular heartbeats etc.
BUT, if you have such a lens, you probably already know this.
So, just turn it off!

I think there is at least one instance where you might NOT want to do this.
If you're use a long lens (I.e. Sigma 150-500) on a windy day and on a tripod the wind will bounce the lens almost as much as hand held. So, you might want to try some test shots with it on and off.

The weather people are predicting a wind from the South. If that holds; my position will be in the lee of a building. However I have noticed that the weatherman sometimes flubs the prediction.

I have been to this fireworks display before and where I will be shooting from you can actually feel the pressure wave from some of the larger aerial shells.

I guess it will be a little trial and error. From my previous attempts at fireworks photography; it will probably be mostly error.

My beloved canon s90 fell prey to the "lens problem. Restart camera"
Fate. I am now looking for a replacement and have been going back and forth between getting the more affordable canon s110 or the higher rated much more expensive ones available. I also have a 30d slr but the pocket camera is my everyday choice- thanks for your suggestions! Judy
