Both cameras serve very different purposes and have unique advantages in their own arenas. The D800 has the low ISO advantage whereas the 5DIII is superior in high ISO.

If you're working in landscape or studio the D800 is the choice. The 5D Mark III is suited better for weddings.

If you shoot in RAW just remember how a single file with the D800 amounts to 75 megabyte each. Loading a catalogue in Lightroom from the D800 will certainly test your computer

I would suggest going with a desktop over a laptop. Laptops have advantages with portability and are perfect for checking mail and light duty.

Desktops tend to give more processing power for less money because you're not paying for miniaturization. Larger screens found with desktop make it easier to edit photographs as well.

RAM is about the same price but the motherboard on a desktop gives you more slots for ungrading. A dedicated video card on a desktop is less expensive than on a laptop.

For convenience a laptop is prime but for photo editing a PC makes more sense.

Here's an article regarding filters for the 14-24.

I am facebook friends with over 70 pros across the world, and several of them have commented that they do over 95% of their editing in lightroom. There are def. things that PS can do that LR can't, but the things LR does, you can do it easier, and faster, and it doesn't change your original photo file, which has advantages

I agree with this wholeheartedly. Lightroom also has a significant advantage with it's cataloguing method and sync abilities. I use photoshop for the touchups because it has better tools for cloning and such but most of the editing is performed in lightroom.

If you can afford the cost, I definitely would go with the 5D3 instead of the 6D. Recently there's been a firmware update that allows f8 focus.

What this means is you could use a 5.6 lens with a 1.4x extender and still get autofocus. Only the 1Dx and the 5D3 are capable of this unless you have an older 1D Mark IV for instance.

An absolute gift to have for your wildlife photography.
