Saw that link earlier in the thread & he was referring to American beliefs, not Swiss...Plus it's his opinion, & he is a blogger...If you were to listen to him, he is in essence saying that no person of color is to be held responsible for their actions due to the conditions under which they have lived...

TNC's take on race and racism is pretty straight-forward, but may be hard for those who haven't lived with the burden of racism to understand at first. Racism is very transparent to us, because it is woven into the very fabric of our lives. I've followed his writings for several years, and I can assure you he does hold people of color accountable for their actions. However, he is asking that we consider a bigger picture than we are used to considering--not to excuse any bad behavior, but find workable solutions to some of the more intractable problems in our society. As he implies in this video, jailing Zimmerman is not going to save the Travon Martins of the future. For that, we need changes that he predicts will take fifty to one hundred years. I'm not so pessimistic. (Apologies if I misrepresented TNC's thoughts--this is my take anyway.)

I have just read a report regarding a shopping spree in Switzerland during the course of which Oprah Winfrey was 'Racially Abused', her words, not mine. Having gone into a shop to purchase a hand bag the assistant declined to remove a bag from a display as she didn't think that Miss Winfrey would be able to afford it. (Miss Winfrey was apparently not wearing make up at the time and her clothing was not described before you ask.). Having asked three times to see the bag and three times being refused for the above reason Miss Winfrey left the shop with out buying anything. This story was apparently told on an American Chat Show Programme, which I haven't seen, by Miss Winfrey herself. Now before you all start crucifying me please bear in mind that the above is all that I've seen on the subject, but I am puzzled. Where is the racism in this story. At no time did the assistant say 'You are black/green/pink/mauve and I'm therefore not serving you. She was refused because in the assistants eyes she didn't look as though she could have afforded the item. Much the same as I was refused entry into a shop in L.A. because I didn't look wealthy enough to shop there according to the Door Security Guards. (Never did get that Ferrari). So I'm asking has racism in America now moved on from colour to now encompass anything that happens to you that you dislike?

Your premise is false. I support President Obama, but I do not think Dr. Carson is a racist. I believe he would make similar remarks about a white president with the same policies. Racism is having different ground rules based on ancestry.

Thanks for the welcome. In spite of my moniker, I've been visiting this site for a number of months--mostly for the good jokes, and I've enjoyed it.

It may be hard for you to believe, but I also get fed up with a lot of the PC crap. I find that it sometimes gets in the way of honest communication. That said, I also strongly believe that Sarge's joke was way over the top--far beyond just being politically incorrect. It condemns a whole race of people as lazy moochers, and reinforces a stereotype that simply isn't true for every black person. You and/or Sarge may not like black people for whatever reason, but to keep whipping them with the same old tired racist jokes is blatantly unfair. Just as you are sick of the PC crap, don't you think they get sick of hearing that racist crap? Don't you think it tears them down a little each time they hear it? There are millions of black people for which the joke's implications are completely wrong. Isn't it unfair to them to spread this kind of thinking? You may say to yourself, "I know its just a joke", but there are plenty of others who lap it up as evidence and reinforcement for their existing bias. My questions are not rhetorical, I'm hoping you'll answer.

Who is HURT ? Folks that resemble the statement? I'm practicing tough love. Don't like it when you read it? Come back in 6 months when you are on birth control, have lost 100 pounds and have been to court to change 6 last names for your children to 1 last name, even your own maiden name or at least marry one guy and a statement from the Welfare Office that you are drug free at last.

PS: I had responsibility for hundreds of soldiers in the army over 30 years and believe me, I've heard all the self-pity, lazy azz-hole stories countless times. Oh Sarge, I can't do the Physical Training test because I have a stubbed toe, while I watch them every day eating fast food and snacks at their desk. Ohhhh poor baby, come here and let Ole Stupid Sarge escort your fat 22 year old azz out to the field and at 48 yrs old (just before I retired) run the 2 miles with you in under 14 minutes, running backwards sometimes to encourage you on. Then the 40 push-ups and 40 sit-ups to cool off. That's what todays welfare recipients need; some comforting and encouragement from Sarge69.

Well then if you can't take the heat stay out of the kitchen, you never know when the grease might splatter. If the rest is worth the risk, then move to the next post, I read a lot of crap on here that I disagree with or don't find funny, but nothing has ever made me offended. That's a cop out for cry babies.

I can take the heat and I'm not going anywhere. I will continue to be offended by stupid, racist crap, and I will continue to let people know about it.

"Ya know folks, Full Framer is typical of the bleeding hearts that are permeating our society. All so race aware and do-gooders but say something they don't like and they slink off into the darkness to avoid any confrontation. Well, life ain't like that. Go up to the guy out in the Walmart parking lot with a sign saying "Need money for food for my family" with his wife and 2 or 3 kids sitting beside him and offer him a day job for $ 50.00 to do the crappy jobs you either don't want to do or are a little too old and sore to do yourself. He'll say "How about just the money!"

Have you actually tried that or is this just some fantasy you've built up in your mind? What actual experience do you have working with poor people?

But nobody forces you to pass them along.

DEMOCRACY AND RACISM EXPLAINED.

A young kid asks his mother, "Mama, what's a Democracy and what is Racism?"

"Well, son, Democracy is when white folks work every day so we can get all our benefits, you knows like free cell phones for each family member, rent subsidy, food stamps, EBC, free healthcare, utility subsidy, & on & on, you knows, that's Democracy".

"But mama, don't the white people get pissed off about that?

"Sure they do, that's called Racism!"

(Never more simply explained)

Christie Continues Tight Political Embrace of Obama

President Barack Obama is looking to get his groove back — at the beach.

A post-Hurricane Sandy tour of the New Jersey coast line on Tuesday, gives the president a chance for a three-point play that can move him ahead of the recent controversies that have dogged the White House. With New Jersey's Republican Gov. Chris Christie at Obama's side, effective government, bipartisanship and economic opportunity will be the unmistakable message in the face of the coastal recovery.

For Obama, the tour helps him continue redirecting the political conversation after two weeks of dealing with the fallout over the administration's response to terror attacks last September in Benghazi, Libya, the targeting of conservative groups by the Internal Revenue Service and the Justice Department's review of journalist phone records as part of a leak investigation.

The visit occurs as Congress is away for a Memorial Day holiday break, a weeklong recess that likely will silence the daily attention lawmakers, particularly Republicans, had been paying to the three political upheavals. It also comes just days after Obama started seeking to change the subject in Washington with a speech defending his controversial program of strikes by unmanned drones and renewing his push to close the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, detention facility.
