I read the suggestions to not use a ball head but no reason is given. I just bought a Tamron 150-600 and tried it out at the local hockey arena using a monopod and ball head. Admittedly, it was a little too much lens for the arena but I had some excellent results. I had no problems using it and during quiet times the camera could be tilted back to max where it took the weight off me. Of course I still had to pay attention to balance but overall I found this to be a very good option. So instead of listening to "oh don't do that cause I read it on the web" I'd like to know why I shouldn't use a ball head.

Flowers are the ideal subject with some major challenges. Harsh and uncontrolled light with even a slight breeze can play havoc on recording the image(s). But, sometimes everything falls into place, the stars are aligned just right and we capture a masterpiece in the making. Often, its in the post processing where the fun for many of us begins.

I'll start you out. My image is my wife's calle lily. Fortunately, it was in a pot where I could move it to the best light with minimal breeze. In PPing I darkened the background and used some Nik filters to soften the image. The original is tack sharp, but I wanted my final image to be moody and dreamy. For me, I think I achieved what I intended do accomplish.
