This was done quick and easy using Smart Photo Editor. It was early morning and the colors were not all that vibrant so I used a light pencil sketch. BTW, this PP section is quickly becoming my favorite. Thanks, Linda.

Very good, I like what you've done here.

Feel free to download this photo to your computer. Then edit the photo any way you want. Color shifts, composites, black and white conversion, inversion, textures. Whatever you think looks good. When you have finished editing the photo, post your edit in this thread. Edits will be accepted until Thursday at 9pm. At that time we will go to voting. Thank you for your efforts.

Its quite different from what we usually see here, and I hope you all find it to be an interesting image to work with, and that it stimulates your imaginations. Enjoy! Mark

I have the gear head model # 1600 (serial $4412) not mentioned in the brochure you posted. Do you happen to know something about it?

From what I can tell its very similar to the model 1200 gearhead. The difference may be that it came with a 3/8' set screw as well as the 1/4" set screw.

This thread seems to have one listed for sale with several photos of it:

Majestic 1005 Tripod Gearhead, well used but built like the proverbial tank! Unfortunately the company is no longer in business.

I don't know that Beethoven would be inspired by my fanciful moonlight but I can hear the frogs croaking. Your comments are most welcome.

The enjoyment of fiction, be that audio, visual, poetry, or prose, requires the suspension of disbelief. And in the case of this image I just can't get there with Toucan Sam and Freddy the Frog in the image. So I've taken the liberty of removing those characters and concentrating on the image elements that I find fascinating. In particular the moon and the fairies in their native habitat.

You have the lenses and camera bodies to do what you want to do. Suggestion: take the bottom 3 lenses and the D700 (or the D300) to your local camera shop (hoping you have one). First tell them you want to buy a remote trigger (bait). Then ask them to show you how to take the picture you want to take using your equipment. Let them actually set it up and show you how to do it, down to the F-stop, Shutter speed, and ISO. I'll bet they won't be able to resist. You'll probably need the trigger but that's cheap. Don't tell them you already have a tri-pod until after they show you using theirs. That 105 is a macro, my guess is they'll use that. Luck!

Keni, I really like the majority of what you've done here. I don't care for the toucan, the frog and the B&G macaw. They seem out of place from both a contextual and a luminance/chroma perspective.

First thank you all so much. Canon looked better at first glance only superficially because it had that nice flip out display and made me believe it would be easier to transfer images and videos and the settings seemed more intuitive. But again — superficially only. I was dazzled by the newness and the fact that so many bloggers in my “community” use Canons so I figured they couldn’t be too hard to learn at a basic level. The Nikons I have just seen so counterintuitive to me and I can’t see a dang thing at the level of detail I require. I think I just need to get a cable and a monitor so I can view the shots larger since I’m mostly working at a desk or light box, and then I need a few seriously-hand-holding yet short-attention-span tutorials and books.

My first suggestion is don't use the screen use the viewfinder. The second suggestion is use auto focus. From there, you will find the smaller the lens aperture (higher f stop number) the greater the depth of field you'll get.

The quick shot below is from my D700 with 55-200 f4-5.6 nikkor lens and Canon 250D closeup lens attachment. Shot with onboard flash using auto focus; to give you some idea of what you can do.

As I'm sure some of you found out last evening with a lunar eclipse the amount of light goes way down so the exposure time has to go up. I haven't finished going through all the images I shot last night but this is the best one so far.

Thanks for stopping by and having a look all. The police did try and tell us we were too close till we explained we were in our backyard. No one was home at the time and so no one was hurt. It was a sad loss since the house was one of the oldest in the neighborhood.
