I was granted access to shoot some basketball for the
Milton High School girls. It's been a year since I shot
any sports, and really odd seeing them play in masks.
Can't wait until they start playing volleyball and hockey
again too!

Nikon D750 with the Tamron G2 70-200 at f2.8 1/500
and auto iso - usually around 2500 or so. I shot
these in low res jpegs, pretty much straight out
of the camera with just cropping to get them
out the school and parents quickly.

Jules, I see you picked up a D500 - how do you like it?
I picked a used one up also, mainly for birds in flight.

I would not go for a slower shutter speed, but f13 might be a bit extreme for aperture. Try opening up to f8 or so to bring down the ISO (on auto?). Wider apertures will also isolate the subject more, if you are looking for that effect.

I use Topaz DeNoise AI on almost all my images. Highly recommended. It works well, as was mentioned, IF YOUR SYSTEM CAN HANDLE IT. Topaz products require robust video cards and video memory capacity that may not be available on some systems. Hopefully you will not run into problems.

I agree - f13 is robbing you of a lower iso - and yes use auto iso. Also, the available light in the first photo is not ideal for getting detail in birds, unless you are really close and can fill the frame. White sky is very difficult to have the camera meter the exposure correctly. Steve Perry of Backcountry Gallery has great tips on all of that, he's the best.

I put these up awhile back, hope they will help. I am hoping to shoot
some volleyball again here soon - club volleyball has to start again
someday!!

I have had the first version and have the G2, Definitely worth it. Paired with my D500 it is now a potent birds in flight rig. I have the tele also and the quality is good, but I would not try birds in flight with it, the focus is too slow. For any other shooting it is good, but you have to have bright sunlight or a very still subject.

I have the D750 and I use it for portraits, landscapes and some wildlife. Now I have a D500 and D7200 and just keep the big lens on it and have two set ups. It works great. Get the D750 and don't look back.

Price is too high. I bought mine a year ago with dual charger, 2 batteries, strap, original box and a big book covering all the features of the camera. I paid $700.

Agreed, I paid 770 a year ago as well fyi.

Awesome photo!!! I’m jealous! I spent a lot of time with comet Hale Bopp & Hyukatakie ( sp?) back in the film days.

I’m now inspired...

Not much time left! Make sure you at least get a peak with the binocs!

Most excellent photo!!!

Exactly what date and time did you get that incredible shot? I'm pretty sure if I know that, I can identify the culprit.

According to Starry Night Pro, a satellite named ISIS-1 passed through the tail in about that spot about 9:17pm CST on 7/19, and the ISS was a very near miss a few seconds after 9:00pm CST on the 18th.

Right around 10:51pm on the 19th central time.

Excellent. It might have been an Iridium flare.

I have been notified that it is just that!

Was pretty happy with the timing of this comet photo. I haven't determined if
it was a shooting star, or a satellite that adjusted it's solar panels at just the right time.
Anywho, I'll take it!

Shawano Lake - Shawano,WI
Single shot - Nikon D750 RAW 14 bit, ISO 1600 f/2.8 @ 200mm 8 seconds.
Light crop and light edit, used tungsten for the white balance which I
like for night shots.

I was thinking of buying a 150-600 Tamron G2 lens. All my UHH searches are older reviews.
Anyone have one and can give me a review. Also looked at sigma 150-600 but the sport is heavy and pricey and contemporary seems not as good as newer Tamron G2. Camera is Canon d77. Use will vary but wildlife and birding are potential subjects

I have had this lens for some time and absolutely love it. You can't go wrong with it. I had the G1 first then upgraded. Yes you need good light, but you need that with wildlife anyway! Buy it and never look back. It will be a long time before I get so good that my talent will outperform what this lens can handle. Check out this hummingbird shot, it's all you need to know it's up to most tasks, and I hand hold it 90% of the time. Monopod the rest. Enjoy!
