This is my preserved female scorpion fly that I staged for a focus stacking session using a 5X magnification Nikon Measuring Microscope objective as the optic for the camera. There were 222 images processed in Helicon Focus to produce the final posted image.

I placed a "free" sample paint swatch a distance behind the specimen to create a color background rather than my typical black. The paint and hardware stores are a great source for these sample paint swatches that can be had at no cost.

Scorpion flies thrive in a damp environment. They are harmless and many do not feed as adults. They earned the name "scorpion" due to the protrusion on the male's reproductive part that resembles the tale of a scorpion.

Recently acquired for my display cabinet a Beseler Topcon RE Super. It was the second SLR that I owned and used some 50+ years ago. It has the standard 58mm f1.4 Lens. The lens has a 62mm skylight filter on it I am looking for a Topcon Lens cap that fits this lens. I believe that it is a slip on cap that would have to be larger than 62mm ?? See some on ebay that are 58mm but they slip over a 58mm filter.... and are for a telephoto.. To me looks like I need about a 66-67mm.. Anyone have one that can give me a size or if you have one in a drawer someplace they want to sell would be helpful.

Looking for a camera to set up near my hummingbird feeders. Resolution and reaction time most important.

Not really sure how well trail cam will work with Bird feeders. I have had numerous cams over the years even a 35mm filmtrail cam.. They usually have very slow shutter speeds 30th -50th of a second fixed aperture and usually meant for capturing a game trail 20-60 feet away. As game walk in they are slow and a slight movement will trigger camera. You can set them up for single shot or bursts them time out for say 1 minute, then will trigger again. video options are available also.
Capturing humming birds at a feeder might be a real trick. Better off setting bird feeder close to a window and setting up DSLR on a tripod and triggering remotely.

We got to kitten sit while Jasmine was part of a medical mission to Costa Rica with others from Medical School and some professors. They got back the 6th. We don't even have to take Persephone back to her since she will be coming back to So Cal to do her residency only 50 miles from home.
Taken April 13th with my phone, if I had tried to get a camera she would have vanished on me. She still has two bedrooms unexplored(doors kept closed), about half of the garage and all of the family room to explore. The family room is "dog" territory but she does go to the toddler gate that keeps them out of the main house to tease them.

Nice looking cat. Looks alot like our "Justice" born the day after 9-11 ... Put him down a couple of years ago. Petless now. Too hard to put family member down. So lucky for you to be able to pet sit !!~

I suspect they stand by their products forever. Have a look.

I have a B&W CPL that was a couple of years old with little use and it became very difficult to turn. When ordering a few items from B&H I mentioned it to the guy. He said that it would be only warranted for 2 years. Not knowing where the receipt was, I ordered another.

All these responses are possible reasons for your issue, but as I was told 40+ years ago: "The only thing that stands between what you see and what you are trying to capture and your film or sensor is your glass. Choose it wisely.

I have been looking for this photograph in my file for a long time I still have not found the original slide, However I did find a print that I had put into my portfolio a long time ago (1977).
Anyway I was invited as guest to the first Formula One Gran Prix in the streets of Long Beach CA. I was given a complete pit pass to do some photography for my friends who invited me. This was the year of the great battle of the Championship between John Hunt and Niki Lauda. They have made a movie about this battle between these two amazing drivers. Also a race between Ferrari and McLaren motor cars.
However I was always a fan of Mario Andretti and his style of driving. My favorite shot of him sitting ready in his race car waiting for the go ahead to enter the track. These were taken during the qualifying stages to determine what positions the drivers would have on race day. I was very exciting...

I will add a couple of shots of Hunt and Lauda as well as their cars.

Enjoy this blast from the past...

My late wife and I went to the Leader Dog training facility during a Lions conference.
The photo of her and the other user is interesting because he was in tower 1 on 9/11. They were told to stay in place, he felt otherwise and got some fellow employees to go down and out and with his Leader Dog. If I remember correctly he was above the impact point and they had quite a time getting down and out.

Nice Set, Good story, Great Institution. Visited LDFTB years ago when we lived down state.

We took a tour of Colon, Panama and came across this old building which we thought might be an abandoned textile warehouse or something. Not abandoned at all. It is a fully functional 3rd world prison. You can bet there are hard core cases here and there are no extra creature comforts to spoil the dregs of society in Panama. If you zoom in on several windows you can get a feel for the prisoner life and some of the dwellers visible. The nicest part of the place seems to be the high tower for guards to draw a bead on escapees.

Eye opening. But like you said it's for the dregs of society. If you can't do the time don't do the crime. I'm sure they get A/C, 3 hots, a cot and cable TV.
