Here are some additional photos of my motorcycle ride through Alaska and Canada. My apologies to Canadian hoger's as I initially failed to mention how equally spectacular the scenery is in British Columbia. As I mentioned prior, using the ferries is a wonderful way to travel as most of the routes are on the inland passage. The travel isn't fast, however the scenery is wonderful and you have the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life. Thanks for viewing. Best viewed in download.

You must have brought me luck because I just caught some pics of my FIRST American Kestrel! Thanks! LOl....I was photographing a sitting Red Shouldered Hawk When this pesky small bird kept diving into my viewfinder! It finally dawned on me this was a strange new bird to me... A KESTREL! Male even...However my pics are of ID quality only & I am not showing them, hopefully better prepared shots to come! I got him in flight & sitting way up in a pine tree. A great day.

Good going Mustanger. It's like once you see them, you'll be quick to notice them again. Looking forward to your future Kestrel posting.

I recently ran across some old photos taken in 2007 when a buddy and I rode our motorcycles to Alaska from Southern California. At the time, I used a new DSLR, a Nikon D-80 with a 18-200 lens. All photos were shot in jpeg (having no idea what RAW was about). We were gone over a month and put over 5K miles on the bikes. We camped along the way and motel'ed it when a shower was in order. When my wife was ask how she felt me being gone a month, she replied, "Couldn't he be gone longer?". Gotta love her sense of humor. Our route took us straight up the coasts of Cal, Oregon and Washington. Caught a ferry to Vancouver Island, Canada, rode to the northern tip, and caught another ferry to Prince Rupert, Canada. From there caught another ferry utilizing the Alaskan Marine Highway System to Haines, Alaska (wonderful way to go - all inland passage). We rode from there to Anchorage, Soldotna and Homer. I was blown away by the shear beauty and vastness of Alaska. Truly an amazing ride and one I'll count as my best.

Regarding these old photos, I decided to see if I could improve a bit in Lightroom. Enjoy. Best viewed in download. Maybe more to come.

The first shot of the Vermillion is fantastic, the others are no slouches either. Wonderful set Did you edit the skies?

Thanks Jim. I did edit the skies as the original were a butt ugly dull gray.

The vermilion was doing his thing, catching bugs then flying back to his perch atop the barbed wire fence. He wasn't too skittish and allowed me to get reasonably close. The White-tailed kite hovered over a vacant field looking for his next meal. Best viewed on download. Shot with Nikon D500 80-400. Thanks for viewing.

The mantra in wildlife photography is "focus on the eyes". Over 40 years ago Texas wildlife photographer Jerry Smith mentioned to me that, if in the photograph, the reflection in the animal's eye was a single white dot the focus was perfect. Jerry shot with a Nikon and an adapted Leitz Telyt 400 mm f6,e lens on Kodachrome 64.

Sage advice from Jerry. As so many excellent photographers have said on this forum, if you have the eye, you have the photo or in so many words. Thanks for sharing druthven.

I'm not good at birds in flight! However, I was happy to get a few of what I thought was a Bee-eater. But I could not find this in my book. If you know what it is, please let me know!
P.S. These guys were fast!

Wow, these are excellent photos of a beautiful bird. Thanks for sharing.

I learned to board in 1959, Oahu. No wet suits, long, wood boards, lots of candle wax. But the wahinies, well, enough.

Saw these two mockingbirds apparently having an argument while sitting on a barbwire fence. It then soon turned into something more than an argument. Best viewed on download. Thanks for viewing.
