I bet you can tell the difference in certain prints.

Sure, but I don't make prints large enough to see any difference from a normal viewing distance. I shoot a wall hanger on occasion, but the biggest prints of my photos in my house are 12x18.

My sister, wife, and I went to Gulf Shores Alabama for four days. We took along our Electric bikes and rode them every day in the park. We saw Gators on 3 of the 4 days.I did not count the babies in that count.

This is an amazing picture. I grew up on Mobile. I spent many, many days at Gulf Shores growing up. I never saw an alligator there. I did see a couple in the bay when we visited the Battleship Alabama. They were filming Under Siege on the ship when we visited. Some people came up to us and asked if we were with the film crew. (It should have been obvious that we weren't. We had kids with us.) My wife said, "Yes. I'm the alligator advisor."

Yes, I know. Most screwdrivers are cordless, but this is about electric, powered screwdrivers. Although I've owned a couple, I use the old-fashioned kind or a cordless drill if I have a lot of screws to put in or take out.

The Torque Test Channel did a test of these screwdrivers on Sunday, and the cheap Amazon Denali unit was just about the best one tested. At $24, it was faster than almost all the others, although the $120 DeWalt might have edged it out. It I wanted one of these, I would get the Amazon Denali. A higher price doesn't necessarily mean higher quality. He tested only screwdrivers that were shaped like regular screwdrivers, not the pistol kind.

Last month, Project Farm tested cordless screwdrivers shaped like a drill. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxNovtAv6dk

I've used the same Black and Decker cordless screwdriver for about 30 years. The OEM batteries are not still available, but the ones I've bought most recently work fine. I see no reason at this point to buy another one.

When I'm shooting airshows or wildlife, those cameras with the 24ish megapixels show their limits. I may get reasonable 'online sizes' that fill a digital frame, but those crops wouldn't print to larger sizes.

Go for it. You only live once.

Here's an update on Gabby cat, presented in a quick review of details of a 20MP cropped sensor pocket camera. I still think a dedicated camera does better than a phone, here captured in RAW and processed in LR6.

The Canon PowerShot G9 X Mark II is a compact camera with a 1-inch CMOS sensor, roughly a 2.7x crop factor, for this model / lens giving a 28–84mm equivalent focal length. The camera features a pop-up flash with flash exposure compensation and in-body image stabilization (IBIS).

The 1:1 pixel level crop below shows the fine details the camera will capture, if opened to the embedded 1947x1217 crop.

I use my 20MP Canon G7X Mark II more than any other camera. 20MP and an outstanding lens is all I need most of the time. I use my Nikon D850 when I need to use a macro lens or a lens that goes beyond the range of the little camera. I also use it when I don't have a lens long enough for the situation. Cropping is a viable option. The small camera is convenient enough to take anywhere. The big camera is not. Can I see the difference in photos taken with the two cameras? Yes, but it is slight or difficult to discern on a computer screen and only becomes apparent on magnified or cropped images.

Google says Pine Warbler. It's interesting that your actual photo shows up in the search results.

I shoot B/W film for archival purposes. I have 90 year old prints that are sharp and interesting from the perspective of seeing a different place in time. Hopefully my descendants will have this opportunity.

I'm pretty sure that when I'm gone, all of my archived film from the past will go to the dump. My descendants will probably not know what to do with it or have the means to do anything with it. I've scanned all of it. I'm trying to pick out some photos of the family that future generations might be interested in. "Might" is the key word. No one in my family at this point seems even remotely interested in any of my pictures taken before they were born. Perhaps your situation is different.

I don't care if anyone wants to use film. Whatever turns them on. It would just be a waste of my time and money for what I consider to be inferior results.

Apparently, The Far Side folks objected. Read what therwol and I wrote in this thread re our messages from Admin.

I was thinking about what happened with this even before you posted. I think that the owner of the copyright of The Far Side noticed that their cartoons were posted here without compensation and objected. Copyright owners expect to be paid when their content is distributed. You don't see blockbuster movies posted on the free version of YouTube. Disney in particular is said to monitor YouTube and have their content taken down when they see it. (I was surprised recently when I saw a full copy of Song of the South posted on YouTube. I'm not going to bother to check if it's still there.) How would any copyright owner know if their content is posted anywhere? Probably Google.

Even for those who seldom, if ever, have any creative notions cooking between their ears, they can imagine themselves more creative if their "creative process" involves an excessive amount of process.

Unfortunately, "process" is not the creative half of the term "creative process". IOW more process tips the balance AWAY from creativity.

Theres nothing creative about spooling up film reels, mixing chemicals, loading or unloading cameras, etc. Worse yet is a life tied to the need for darkness, plumbing, and ventilation. Analog photography is a ball and chain, not a liberator of creative minds.

I feel the same way. If film gave me better results than I get with digital, I might consider it. It doesn't. I took thousands of pictures on film before going digital. All of my negatives and slides have been scanned. I look at them, and although some are great pictures and most are pleasing, the end result of the process is inferior (to me) to what I get with digital.

I won't be posting any more cartoons or comics. Since they are copyrighted, that could be a problem. Play it safe and don't post anything that might be copyrighted.

This is a message I got from Admin about a Far Side cartoon I posted in a thread a few months ago. The position of UHH on this is very clear. Debating this will get you nowhere.

I think that the pinnacle of the recordings of The Allman Brothers was the Filmore East album. Earlier albums were recorded rather poorly. This one was not. Mountain Jam (From Eat a Peach) was not included in the vinyl album or in the first CD release. It was actually recorded at that concert. Filmore East was released on CD again with Mountain Jam included, and I think some other shorter recordings from the concert. I don't think that anyone could touch them at that point in their career. What followed was very sad.

The application to digital images should be obvious.

Upscaling photos and video is not a new concept. Information is added to the original in some intelligent way. The results can be quite good. I have a large number of DVDs. With upscaling, they play with near HD quality, not quite, but an improvement over the original.

Forrest Richard "Dickie" Betts, one of the founding members of the legendary southern rock band "The Allman Brothers" passed away today, April 18, 2024 at age 80 after a battle with cancer and COPD. Betts, along with Duane and Gregg Allman, and Berry Oakley formed the band in 1969.

Betts and Duane Allman were both lead guitarist's in the band with contrasting styles, Allman's being a more bluesy, slide guitar versus Betts more country style of playing, as evidenced by some of the bands biggest hits which were written by Betts. After Duane Allman died in 1971, Betts was the lone guitarist in the band. The subsequent years were marked by two breakups and reunions, with Warren Haynes joining the band in 1989, resulting in the familiar two lead guitar sound that the original band was famous for. The late 90's saw more turmoil between band members, and Betts left the band for good in 2000.
