I am jumping in and ordering a D850. I don't want all of the stuff they sell as a kit, just the camera and a memory card. Any recommendations for the card? Thanks.

XQD for sure.

$600 plus $10 shipping

This is a lens I didn't think I would ever sell. Wide, fast and sharp. I sold a photo to the Washington Post that was taken with this one. Comes with front and rear caps and a hood. Excellent glass. The rubber for the focus ring and zoom look a bit white, but it doesn't change the images this lens can make. This lens is mostly metal rather than plastic.

Hey, If the lens is still available will you take 500 even for it?

Yes. And I have both full frame and 1" sensor cameras, and I often use a cellphone camera as well. Each has their place, but the most versatile is the full frame sensor. The primary issue is noise. Smaller are noisier. A 1/2.3" sensor would not be my choice for low light/high ISO situations.

And I apologize for the grumpy old man who has nothing to offer you but snot. That's his trademark.

I have every piece of photographic equipment I need and will never want anything else (smiley face): A Nikon D750 and 24-120 lens for landscapes, etc; the D7500 and 300mm PF plus 1.4X or birds, etc. That said, any thoughts about whether I need to fill the gap between 120 and 300? Or am I still suffering from GAS?

A 14-24mm f/2.8 and a 70-200mm f/2.8 or 80-200mm f/2.8

Requesting suggestions on how to get more detail and sharper pictures of wildlife. Above are two pictures; Gull and Blue Heron.
Both pictures were taken with a Tamron 150-600.
Setting on the Gull was
f6.3
1/1600
ISO: 400 at about 40 feet away with a focal length of 210mm

and the Blue Heron was set at
f6.3
1/1000
ISO: 640 at about 80 feet away with a focal length of 460mm.

Using Photoshop CS6 to make the water / Sky a bit blue, but other than that - very little modifications.

But most of my wildlife pictures do not have the detail I see in many other wildlife pictures. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciative.

For those times you can't setup a tripod, I'd suggest you invest in a Monopod, with tilt head, ball head or gimbal. Good luck and keep practicing.

Friend upgraded to Tamron SP 70-200mm 2.8 g2, I can buy this lens for good price but manual focus only, AF motor needs replacing, should I or should I upgrade to newer lenses, any help would be great

My bad, first input was incorrect, JLocke is right, 80-200 requires in body lens drive. I had the 70-200 on the brain when first posting.

If it's a good price and you'd be saving a bunch over the newer lens, you may want to consider having the AF motor replaced, the 80-200mm is still a current production lens, I'd contact Nikon to see what that repair would cost, then compare the total of purchase price and repair cost to the cost of the new 70-200mm G2 and see if you'd still be saving money.

Hey John,

Sorry for the question about no question, I thought the images were in the photo analysis section and not the photo gallery, my bad.

Some nice pics Bill from my neck of the woods, well done. I hope you had a good time and were treated to some good down home NH hospitality.

Best regards,

I use my HP laptop for post processing my RAW images. Some of the images I recently used in a calendar printed out dark. What suggestions do you have for me when editing my photos so the brightness is rendered correctly? Should I do it during the day in daylight? I keep other lights in the room off. Should I be turning the brightness down on my screen? Should the room I'm in be darkened? Comments appreciated!

Calibrate your monitor for the lighting conditions you work in. Be sure to set up your printer using the correct paper profiles and let your processing software handle the print job not the default printer settings. Not knowing what printer model you have makes a bit of difference. Some have secondary printing programs (i.e. Canon) that will out perform your PP software and yield better results in the final printed images. Good luck...

Hello everyone, using a new Nikon AF-S-DC Micro Nikkor 40mm f/2.8 macro lens, first time shooting with this type lens, opinions are welcome to help me take better photos

Get closer (fill the frame), avoid centering the subject (composition), be aware of the background and it's distractions (use of depth of field). Have fun and keep shooting...

I will be in a booth talking about riflescopes. I am not in the industry, but I am a long-time long range competitive shooter with a few medals and a passion for optics that started with cameras in the 1960 and carried over to sports optics. I'm doing this as a favor to a friend.

I did computer industry shows for 30+ years as a vendor and I know only too well about the long hours. Thankfully, I don't do the setup or tear down for this show.

If anyone is going, PM me and maybe you can stop by the booth and visit.

Who's optics? If you don't mind my asking. The reason I ask is we'll also have optics in addition to a wide array of other product offerings.

I feel your pain - week long (from arrival to tear down) trade shows, days that start at 5 and end at 11, and a dozen hours per day standing on a hard coliseum floor are the stuff of nightmares. You just reminded me how glad I am to be retired.

Hey Trix,

Hope all is well, I'm approaching that point myself, another 6 years to go.
