This is directed to dinosaurs that survived. I noticed the sale of lots of film at my local store the other day, and it reminded me of an experience I never questioned. I was in Australia for 7 months in 2000, and had a Contax G2 camera (35 mm rangefinder - still my all-time favorite traveling camera). I sought film from a local shop in my university and was offered several rolls of Ektachrome, which had ISO of 100 (if I remember correctly) and I was told that it was great in the red range (not my experience in USA-bought Ekatchrome). And it was! I was also told that this film was not available in the USA. Anyone have insights on this? I attach a few pix I took with the slide film (scanned by Kodak USA in 2001). Wish Kodachrome still existed! Cheers, mates.

I dig the height you had the camera when you shot Uluru... the extreme foreground
adds stacks of depth.

Nice framing mate.

I recently received notice that there are several updates for the R3. I had tried to do that one received prior but didn't know how. I decided to do it, and it actually worked pretty seamlessly. I haven't used the camera since, so I don't know if it got ruined. And I still have 6 updates to do to be totally up to date.

I'm going to be needing my GPS a lot in upcoming days, and I knew there was a map update available. I had done this several times, and although time-consuming, it was pretty simple. So I started in. It stalled at 41% transferred data, and it was taking forever. I left it to grind away overnight, and started in again the next morning when maybe my internet connection would be better. Again, it stopped at about 40%. After several attempts, I started a chat, finally getting to a real person. She was pretty good, and finally determined that the newest map was bigger than my old device could handle. I had two choices, download partial maps or use an SD card. I opted for the SD card, went and bought one, then followed the directions on how to use it. It didn't work. I can't go back to my previous map because it is now corrupted. It won't uninstall, as was suggested to me. So my device is now a piece of expensive worthless plastic! This is why I don't update my cameras! If the same thing were to happen to my camera, I'd be devastated!

Yeah, I've had updates that have down graded (imho) programs and devices... especially my Samsung phone.
Sorry to hear this happened to you AzPicLady

Two points:
First, if everything is affected, then so are your measuring systems, i.e., no way to check.
Second and more important, it is the fabric of space itself that is suppose to be expanding. But mass affects the local rate, so first, galactic clusters will hold together, but other clusters will vanish over the edge so to speak ( so far away and expanding so fast, their light will never reach us ). Then the clusters will separate leaving isolated galaxies. This will continue until we would see only our solar system, the it disintegrates, then atoms are ripped apart. Call the big rip. All ends as a cold, empty ever expanding space.

I considered "if everything is affected, then so are your measuring systems" long ago,
however I dismissed the thought, as I cant imagine (and I think I have a good imagination) myself, , my car, my motorcycles (for examples) constantly getting larger.

I could be wrong about the matter, but I have trouble imagining that too... ;-)

That is iconic Western Australia... Particularly that large species of Kangaroo Paw.

Wish I was there Bunko! I love Perth and its people, and its environs too.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

I guess the site is interesting, but when you consider
that Australian aboriginals have inhabited Australia
for more than 60,000 years, it's kinda yawn worthy imho.

What I'd like to know is; if the universe is constantly expanding, how is it
that the distance is static, between the sun and the planets in our solar system
(apart from elliptic orbits of course)...
the sun and the planets in our solar system being part of the universe an' all?

Hi,

I came back from Fairford a while ago and some photos to my eyes appear out of focus! I have attached a screenshot of a RAW photo as reference. I am confused as to why some of my photos appear to be out of focus and if any other aviation photographers may be able to help with improve on this problem. I shot this using 1/320th shutter speed for rotor blur. Is it truly out of focus because my D5100 is only 11 focus points, camera shake, shutter too slow is my cameras burst rate only being 4 frames per second the issue? I am saving up for a D780 upgrade and hoping that full frame, more focus points and 7fps CH may resolve this.

Catalpa trees are dirty, they have large leaves, and the wood is worthless. However, the blossoms in the spring are pretty.

Pretty flowers.

However the white balance is/was off... which drastically "flattens" (no depth) an image.
It needed more local contrast too, to regain depth and texture.
It was overexposed by 1/2 a stop as well which burns things out, especially whites of course.

I hope this helps improve your image making and does not get me vilified by the braying asses.

I wasn’t comparing your images. Just stating the fact that there are limitations to the capabilities of those cameras. The Nikon 600mm is certainly capable of much sharper images than the Finepix. I don’t know the particulars of your model but the one I had was capable of 1200mm equivalent. The friend I gave it to loves it and it’s very capable for social media posting that she does. It doesn’t compare IQ wise with the 1” sensor Sony RX10MIV I replaced it with and my Sony doesn’t compare IQ wise with either my Olympus or Nikons. Your photo is fine for what it is, just not one I would choose to tout it’s capabilities compared to the Nikon with the 600 f/4.

I used a Finepix Superzoom as my kayak camera before upgrading to the Sony RX10MIV. While it may get you the same or more reach than the 600 full frame lens it’s not the same quality. Your shot suffers from noise and lack of sharpness.

LOL. The lack of sharpness in the photo taken with the 600mm Nikkor was as soft as it gets
and some of that birds whites are burnt out as well... and it's as flat as a biscuit LOL.

And bud I, sure as heck don't need you
to tell me that the old Fujifilm bridgie struggles with noise in low light LOL.
Also a real focal length of about 200mm (as is the S6500fd aka S6000fd) is far from being a superzoom... as you would have it... being far shorter
than 600mm... LOL you are so full of it.

You bud, have an agenda. If you didnt, you would have sited the weaknesses of both images not just mine.

The reason I rarely visit this site anymore is because of the examples of the Dunning Kruger syndrome like you.

Do not respond to my posts again bud, and I will not respond to yours.
Now buzz off, and leave me alone.

Goodbye Fly.

Bill,

I'm sorry about the harsh words regarding your image.
My critisism was compelled by Flies ignorance.

I know you have taken much better photos than your example in this thread...
as have I... taken much better photos than my example (of the Corrella) in this thread.

As a professional wildlife photographer I will stick by my 600 f4 lens to make a living, thank you.

Am I correct in thinking your 600 f4 lens cost about $8,000 second hand?

Anyhoo Bill, I shot the below with one of these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/224805933538?

The darn bandit was filching the "cones" off my pencil pine.
The ones the correllas drop on the carport roof block its spouting.
