Welcome to the hog. There are plenty of crazy Aussies here, so you'll feel right at home. Earl. :-)

Thanks Earl, we took the small detour off the Pacific through your town last year. Very pretty place, loved all the tartan. Glad to hear that there are more crazy Aussies in the Hog. It appears that there are some other kind of crazies here as well!

I won't say that you won't embarrass yourself - in your eyes - you are, after all, you're own worst critic...

If you post in the photo gallery, the photos will be viewed and comments will be posted - as you've probably viewed already...
Also, by clicking on the "My Topics" link, you will notice that more views are logged than comments posted - so a lot of folks look but don't say anything - comments are not required so don't be slighted by that... Some look and have no improvements to offer or notice that you did not ask for any feedback or comments...

If you ask for C&C (comments and critique) or post in the photo analysis section (the preferred method), you will get some honest, blunt, constructive feedback - take it for what it is though - an attempt to communicate better techniques, tips and tricks.

Hope this helps alleviate your concerns ;)

Thanks for all that, I saw lots of really good photos in the gallery and I've already had a post at the CC section, it looks like a great place to get advice! I'll get this laptop sorted then I'll see if I have anything worth embarrassing myself over. :D :D :D

Ah - thanks for the info...

I bought this computer second hand a couple of days ago. It still had some stuff on it. I think this guy must think I am the previous owner.

Welcome to the Force...

You have entered an addictive land of truths, myths, fantasies, ghosts, goblins and good old fashioned advice (whether you want it or not)...

Seriously though - the folks here have lots of good advice and a couple of days of experience and are willing share what they can - don't hesitate to ask detailed questions, in fact, the more details, the more accurate the answer ;)

A couple of links to help you navigate the forum and a couple of resources to hopefully answer your questions or guide you in your quest...

Looking forward to seeing some photos.

Thanks for all that info, I always try to nut out problems by myself but if I get stuck I will certainly ask the experts here! Photos? Here with everyone looking? I'm not sure that I want to embarrass myself!

Welcome to the family!

Thank you Linda, you all sound like a great family! I had to laugh though, just my luck because almost right away I came across a scruffy little dog at your front gate as I came in but I'm sure he is only the local stray! :D :D :D

Welcome to the Hog, Dardan. Your story is much like mine. Only difference is my darkroom was in a corner of the garage, Minolta, left for awhile, came back and Nikon. I'm glad you joined us. ;)

Thanks for the welcome Db, I had two bodies, an X-1 at first, then I went for the best and bought the top of the range XM. It cost me about a year's pay! Took so many photos in places the paint wore through to the brass. I could only afford film because I wound my own cannisters. I still have it.

Welcome to UHH, dardan. All that B&W stuff sounds very, very familiar :) Enjoy ... Jack

Thanks, this Photoshop sure beats yellow, smelly, crinkled skin, but who wears gloves at 17?

Thank you and, (just quietly so my Nikons can't hear), I rather like your camera!

Welcome Dardan , just like cars cameras change , the wheels still roll forward, just a lot more tech stuff to learn .

Thanks for the welcome Lenf, I'm not frightened by technology but I do miss a proper brass radiator that can be soldered up rather than those new fangled alu jobs with silly plastic tanks that split.

Hello, I would like to introduce myself. I am a retired motor mechanic, my interests are cars, golf, (badly) and photography. When I was younger I shot film in B&W using Minolta and did my own developing and printing in Mum's laundry (much to her inconvenience). A long time away from the hobby then I took it up again a few years ago. I have Nikon stuff mostly, although I had collected a number of other lenses over the years. I use Photoshop but I have a number of other programs to use as and when they are required. I look forward to taking an active part in this forum, receiving help and and advice from members, and maybe offering help if I can.

I understand about the wires needing to be there, but the 2 horizontal wires going out of frame (right side)serve no purpose, nor does the 2 short ascending diagonals on the right side...loose them and I think it's a winner.

Thanks for that OnDSnap, it puts the photo out of balance. It's a bit of a pity that I overdid the contrast but I didn't keep the original. I have learned since then.

So you are messing around .. not serious .. I will delete this thread ... after lighthouse sees it.

I was certainly NOT messing around in my comments concerning Billy span's old woman portrait. And no-one has ever "messed around" on this site? Including your fine self? I owned up straight away and said that no-one else need reply. Does nobody read?

The section rules state the the author should post a finished image. This means that you are supposed to post an image that you are pleased with and that you have done your best to bring out it's qualities in post.

Therefore I would not assume that you would have posted something that you consider an abomination. Why would you put an abomination up for critique?

Again, please read my previous post, "Phew Billyspad, I found this for you and for a moment I was worried. I'm so glad you saw my overdone PP and that it was you who first responded. No-one needs to say any more thanks because Billy and I are now even".
