NYT rarely retracts stories. they have a horrid history in the last several years. no longer the "paper of record"

Not analytical. Most qualifiers are missing as is context. I complained about this recently. NYT has been wrong on so much on last 4 years. I don't take much stock in what they print. I do give them the benefit of the doubt, but research what they write.

Of course, the number of cases are going up. The number of people tested is going up, so it only makes sense the more and more people will be found to be cv positive. What is rarely discussed is the FACT that the vast majority of cv positives are asymptomatic. The number the get sick is very small. The number requiring hospitalization is exceedingly small. I think i read the latter is only about 0.02% of positives. Dont pounce on me for that, but i believe that is the number i read yesterday.

The media has made the public neurotic. I see it everyday. We should take precautions. Docs seem to be split on where to go now. Some believe slowly reopening is the right thing to do while others say we shouldnt open until vaccines are available. The latter is laughable. How well does flu vaccine work now? Lots of strains. Lots of death from flu every year even among those that have been vaccinated.

Be safe!

you vocalized the problem. No one is providing context or qualification of the data. Lousy situation. Typical bad reporting. When i went to college, generally the most stupid students majored in journalism. Mind you i've known some outstanding journalists, too. But one would think the most basic of actions in reporting would be to qualify data and put it in context.

There is no disputing the fact that the vast majority of cv pluses are asymptomatic. Also, it is a fact that if a positive dies, for any reason, they are included in the death toll. I've heard several docs on TV mention that they thought that was dopey.

I just want to know the REAL numbers (qualified data and context). Its the engineer in me.

the media and certain pols have made neurotics out of the general population. I'm so against what's going on:

- media running fast and loose with stats that they dont have the brains to understand or qualify
- govt agencies, embarrassed by their early predictions, trying to boost the numbers any way they can to help justify their inadequate modeling attempts
- governors demanding from the Federal govt what they should have been responsible for in the first place
- governors and mayors empowering themselves with much too much power (power hungry maniacs)
- tired of hearing "if it saves just one life..." where people are dying routinely because of inadequate policies, failed programs, ignoring of realities. This statement is focused MAINLY at state and local level
- inadequate control of borders that routinely contribute to crime and disease

I heard this AM how the cv death rate in NYC is going down and the infection rate is rising nationwide!!!!! Would somebody please clarify? I'm not talking clarification like NYT, WAPO, CNN or MSNBC. I want data i can trust. If the infection rate is going up because more and more tests are being done and more and more cv+ are being found, that makes lots of sense. The overall death rate in the US is DECREASING.

Nobody seems to want to talk about the vast majority of cv+ are asymptomatic which means there is large-scale immunity.

Tired of idiots talking about how wearing a mask will prevent someone from contracting cv. I'm willing to admit it MAY cut down on it. Mask's primary function is to prevent transmission rather than eliminate contraction. I had an argument with someone recently about this. There was no convincing them that any mucous membrane is a vector for contraction. Eyes, for instance.

so tired of people sneering and calling out "stupid" if they see someone 20 ft away without a mask.

Something's got to give. CDC/NIH was wrong about cv from the start. Now they are in cover-ass mode, for sure.

Economy has to open for...mental health...for money to eat and live. Govt's were never meant to be there fore the purpose of providing money, food, shelter for the population on a large scale. some small number of individuals, yes. no problem

GA seems to be doing fine now that they are partially open. Forbidding someone fishing or golfing or closing a beach or park is idiocy. Just educate people where necessary. Dumping sand on skate parks? What a--holes dreamed that up. Just tell kids to keep distance is more than enough and govt appropriate.

We have to get back. BTW, I am in a high risk group. I know how to protect myself, as everyone should know too.

Good luck to us and stop listening to the idiot talking heads that blather without knowing what they're saying

Stay well, UHHs

i have ordered many things from Wish. Sometimes real junk! Sometimes not bad. If something doesnt work (about 15% of time), they are generally good about prompt refunds. some items are outstanding quality. some absolute junk. price is almost always right though. Better than right.

I have several friends in China. They never heard of Wish. After one of them did some research, he said it is a business meant for outside of China. They do no business in China.

Lots of times the free stuff is really free except for shipping. Often the shipping dates are better than what's promised. They have some really WEIRD things for sale that will leave you scratching your head.

Good luck. Report back when you get your ring-flash. I'd be interested.

We see less pollution in major cities and the skies according to the data presented. All good and fine but...

I get the sinking feeling that this virus is not going to help at all. While the skies appear bluer already the real pollution is way high in the air and this is what causes the green house effect. This has not gone away.

The in between pollution (surface/high altitude) has been reduced. This has a side effect, the sun heat dispersed by the air pollution is now straight onto the surface with the potential or creating a surge of temperature. Everything will be warmer everywhere precipitating and ecological disaster faster then anticipated. If water get warmer, storms will be stronger, evaporation will be faster, feeding into the storm system. Ice/snow will also melt faster leaving areas with less water than ever before.

Think of it as being on a beach and you use an umbrella for protection. You feel slightly cooler but the environment will still keep you warm. The umbrella also cuts on rays that are unhealthy. Remove the umbrella and now you are fully exposed to the sun by the time it took you to remove the umbrella.

Now consider clouds passing over the sun. The temperatures drops almost immediately as the umbrella effect affects everything that surrounds you.

The mid-air pollution acts as a dampener against direct sun ray as the light/energy is reflected and trapped in the higher layer. Remove the mid-air pollution and we remove the dampener and 'shield'. We now have more light and energy hitting the ground.

I am well aware that I am not a scientist and likely just an idiot that now has too much time on his hand but... Logic and observation seem to converge.

So... (the virus stuff)

This means that the virus will have 'screwed' with us at three levels... Health, economy and environment... On the other hand less surface and mid air pollution means less difficulties to breathe...

I have no scientific data to support this opinion and it is just a stray thought about what can happen.

What are your thoughts on this subject?

Was the Spanish Flu (oooh, is that a slur on Spaniards...hahaha)...killed about 250,000 in 1918. Was that climate change? Warming??

I have heard people in Asia attribute earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, et al. to climate change. All nonsense.
As i always say, the earth is warming and it has been for 11,000 years. We're on our way to another ice age AFTER we heat a warming maximum. Cycle has repeated itself several times over the history of the earth. Man has not influenced that cycle in the past. Regardless of what we do, the earth will heat, cool, some animals and plants will go extinct, some new ones will come along. All the data is there in fossils, sediment core samples and ice core samples. Useless to try to explain this to some.

Whether we slow the warming by days, months or years makes no difference, it will happen anyway. Same with cooling.

actually, they do have a lot of say as to curriculum. Dont forget that groups like NEA and other teacher unions are big into lobbying for their needs and wishes.

Not criticizing teachers or teacher unions (at this time). Just stating a fact. I am not a fan of unions. I feel that there was/is a time and place. I am 100% against full-time, paid union leadership. That's for another topic sometime. Stay well, all!

Right on LWW, as always.

also, there are positives that never ever show symptoms. I suspect that many of us already have antibodies developed from somewhat similar strains that we are all exposed to year after year.

It would be more informative to concentrate on the symptoms and treatment than on test results themselves.

I understand why Kraken tears down this country, but i don't understand why citizens are so anxious to do so. It's amazing to me.

Nooo. did you even consider the alternative that she is genuinely stupid? Ok. Someone's going to come back with her academic creds, i suppose. Academic creds don't make one smart, necessarily.

She is truly a stupid woman and has shown that time after time. I do realize she is likely battling some degree of senility, but even years ago, she was not a smart woman. No comparison to Gingrich.

I am looking for some reviews from actual users for the Canon M50 mirrorless camera with the standard kit lens (Canon 15-45 STM lens). I am considering this camera for my grandson who wants a starter camera setup. I am a Sony guy with a plethora of Sony cameras (A7RIII; A7II; A6000;A6400 and A6500). I offered to give my A6000 and a better than kit lens to my grandson, however, he is really wanting the M50. Thus I need some one who has said camera to tell me how they like it; good points and bad points. I am particularly curious about how fast it focuses and how accurate the focus is on closer subjects.

So there it is folks...fill me in!

Had it since shortly after introduction. LOVE it. My go to is my 5DmkIII with Canon 100-400 as i enjoy wildlife photography most. Travel a lot. This camera is always on my belt when i carry my big camera. Perfect for the occasional landscape shot (I hate changing lenses in the field). The 15-45 kit lens is outstanding. Allows me some macro-shots without lens change. Great for museums, architecture, etc.

One of the big selling points for me is that i can put my 100-400 on the M50 with an adapter. Obviates the need to carry an extra FF body. Saves weight and space and good insurance in case my 5d dies. Such a nice combo. Only good comments about it.

this is all true. My cousin lives in Caracas. lived there when it was the richest country in South/Latin America. Now the poorest.

Food, water, electricity rationed. My cousin has some money and is able to get by via black market. what a mess and no light at the end of the tunnel.

Chavez was a disgrace. Maduro is a disgrace. Sanders once praised them, Castroand others. He wants to make the US into Venezuela.

I've posted before how the take down of a country happens:
1) Govt entices/takes care of people with free stuff
2) Govt raises taxes when free stuff output costs too much
3) Govt raises taxes as not enough money coming in as businesses get nervous and move out. Fewer and fewer jobs
4) Govt has to take care of more and more people
5) Govt raises taxes. people upset/had enough.
6) Govt starts locking up those that speak out
7) etc. etc. etc. as the economy goes down the tubes.

There's Venezuela...Cuba, USSR, Albania, North Korea, etc. China, too. It's only bastions of capitalism that saved China from going down the tubes. They are still a dictatorship and lots of people there are hoping the Communist party goes out of business. I know this first hand. Have been there several time including extended stays. Also, have lots of friends there, including our frequent travel companions.

Hope the US populace is smarter than to let socialists move into power. The result is well documented...over and over again. I know. The Bernie bros keep telling us they can do it better. Same. Same. Same. Socialism always end in the same way...and...no diff between socialism and communism. communism results when socialism fails and the latter always fails.
